You might look at the Music Hall 2.1 if this seems to be a recurring Project problem. As long as color was not the TT issue. Youi might also look at www.Britaudio.com for their pricing on the Rega OEM 2. Hard to beat a Rega tone arm.
I bought a Project Debut III for my son-in-law as a birthday gift. The only sounds I have heard coming out of it are musical, at a level far better than the price would suggest. I have even tried an MC cartridge, but no adverse interference was experienced.
thanks, Logan.
I doubt the hum is associated with the platter, though this is just a knee-jerk response.
I would first try moving the power supply around, even if it means running an extension cord to another room to see if it could be coming from a ground loop.
Sometimes the solution can be as simple as removing a ground pin from a component power cord or grounding the table to a different chasis. If you have several interconnects available, you might even try a different IC that has better shielding.
In any event, do let us know how you resolve this as it helps us all learn a little bit.
I haven't bought the TT yet- this is an issue that surfced on a SH forum website from two different members. I emailed one Sunday to see if he had resolution yet and he has not- he seems to think it is interference created by the motor. But thanks for replying. I have to think this TT is well thought out, although one can never be too careful these days.
On another note- if you were building a budget quality stereo system today, what speakers would you consider? I need to build from the ground up, as I gave away four- 4 ohm Atlantis 7 speakers I had for years, thinking wax was dead. Now I find myself back in the thick of it with no speakers (I'm running through my Dell Dimension right now on my LP to CD/MP3 project). I prefer small speakers to large ones, and as a fifty plus year old I have a pronounced case of Tinnitus and hearing loss, so I'm not goin to be able to pick up much detail or nuance anyway! With that in mind, I appreciate your recommendations. I have a $250 speaker budget. Thanks.
