Hi there

I can't actually tell you what is wrong but i might help you to find out.First, chack your connection.Through digital connections, the dvd-audio layer might not working.what you actually hear is the cd layer(not 100% sure about that)but do try listening through analoq connections.Another thing you might like to try is put the disc in drawer and instead of pressing the "close drawer" button, hit "play". All Pioneers automatically play the dvd-audio layer this way.

Hi Yiangos, and thanks for the prompt reply!

On the back of the player there are 6 outputs for the 5.1 channels which I have connected to the corresponding inputs on the back of the decoder. I assume that these must be analogue as these are the only connections that work with sound from a multi-channel SACD (as I understand it, SACD only works with analogue outputs...).

If I play one of the DVD-Audio discs which work (e.g. Neil Young's HARVEST), through the 5.1 analogue outputs, I can literally pull out the connectors one by one, and hear the sound disappear from each corresponding speaker.

With the newer discs (e.g. Neil Young's ON THE BEACH) there is zero sound being outputted through the anaolgue channels.

I'll try the "tray and play" method tonight, when I get home from work. But, however I do suspect that newer DVD-Audio discs are encoded differently than older discs....
