Subwoofer vs Woofer:
If they were the same size, say 8", the Subwoofer typically would have greater Xmas.

What's the difference between a Woofer and a subwoofer?

A woofer reproduces low frequencies below 100Hz and is necessary for music reproduction. Some go much lower.

A sub-woofer, as its name implies, reproduces the range below that of the woofer.

Why there is a opening in a subwoofer (like the Creative Inspire 2.1) and not in a woofer?

Because that particular unit was designed that way (ported). You cannot make that generalization as both woofers and subwoofers are usually designed on similar principles and both can be ported or unported.

Kal (who will make no snide comments about whether that particular unit is really a sub-woofer or not)

Which reminds me, I don't recall the last time I saw anything about Acoustic Suspension speaker systems. Are they no longer in favor or what?
