I don't like them either. However, Steve Winwood came out with a new disc a year or so ago called "About Time." I had heard and seen the taping of the disc at Austin City Limits and really liked the sound. Anyway, I go buy the dual disc, which in this case is really cool, you get a dual disc with live versions of some of the tracks and DVD. Then, you also get a straight CD with the studio tracks. All 3 sides (the CD being a seperate disc) for 16 bucks or so.

Sounds great, huh? I get home and the idiots had put the DVD on the CD as well as the dual disc! I took the disc back and tried another with the same results.

For now I am staying in the SACD camp. I will not do dual disc and will not buy any artist on them no matter what. DVD-A requires video assistance and it is out as well. It seams that SACD continues to thrive on some level and I believe that many smaller, independent labels will keep it alive as an audiophile article. The only draw back I see is that you must buy a very good player to extract all that SACD has to offer, usually $1K or more, but that is what being an audiophile is all about...show me the money. I find SACD done well to be remarkable. To think of my Dad's old 78's and where we have come...and still complain...it is almost comical.

Not much to add except I also have negative feelings about this one. Being saddled with a higher price tag for unneeded/unwanted content in a format inaccessible/unusable by the buyer is a bogus deal. Perhaps if there is compelling extra content on a Dual Disc I might be convinced to change my mind.

As far as the hi-res format debate goes, I've stood clear of that one. When it comes to audio, I am decidedly 2-channel old school.

Well... too lazy to deal with vinyl. Call me neo-retro Redbook old-school?
