Chris,
The Revel F12 might be worth adding to your audition list.
Cheers,
Devon
In that price range, I'd check out the Magnepan MMG's or maybe even the next one up....hard to beat at the prices.

I'll throw my 2/100ths USD in.
QUAD 12L
PSB Stratus Mini
imho, must use high quality speaker stands, preferably mass loaded with shot and/or sand for best performance with these or any high resolution stand-mount speaker.
Listen to some Triangles with a tube amp like Jolida or other.
Here is the system I just purchased:
Denon AVR686s Reciever $329 on ebay
Onkyo DV-SP502 Universial disc player $169.99 on ebay
Infinity Primus speakers 2- 360's 2- 150's, and 1- C25 $499
Toslink + Monster Speaker Cable $109
AV cables Came with Onkyo
This system totals $1,107 and is very good for the price in my view. The speakers MSRP alone is $970. All items bought new.
Adam
Thanks for all your suggestions, I went with the Paradigm studio 40's (and a new cambridge audio 640 silver disc spinner).
...and after a few months I can honestly say that I should have listened to them a bit longer before I bought. It's not that my ears are bleeding but they are a little too fatigue-y. They were much fuller sounding that my old Spicas but the spicas are much more open and a cymbal sounds like an "brass" instrument rather than somebody sneezing. Of course the Spicas had a botton end issues.
Put them on Audiogon and consider it a lengthy audition. Or, you could try messing around with cables.
In any event, don't beat yourself up and don't settle for annoying sound.
Before Chris made his selection he should have listened to the Meadowlark E Series floorstanding speakers for $995 or better yet the Meadowlark Swift for $1195. No fatigue.

Another endorsement of the Meadowlark line - good product!
