I use a pair of Sennheizer HD202 phones(about $40 US) for gaming and listening to music on my computer.
IMO, they are excellent headphones, considering the reasonable price.

Sennheiser 600's. Best headphones I've ever had. Only problem is my 6 year old son loves them so much with video games on the PeeCee that I keep finding them hidden in various secret places...

I listen to headphones about equal with my time with speakers. I own Grado 60 and 80's along with my closed Sony 7506's that I am growing tired of. I keep thinking of Entymotics or the middel Shure's, to use with my IPod or portables, but would also like to try the Sennheisers, either the 280pros or the 580's. The 600 or 650 are too rich for my blood. I need to buy some new mic preamps more than I need new headphones. I have really enjoyed the Grados but find them somewhat uncomfortable even with the larger ear pads. They are the best bang for the buck to me. If some tweekster could design some new comfortable pads that would be something and I might buy the 125's or 225's.

I really need to get a headphone amp. There is always something else to buy where this hobby is concerned.

I have a pair of 280's, they really do work well as closed headphones, however they do not sound as musical as the grado's 60's.

Pro 4AA
I just got a new old stock pair. I like the older AA better than the newer ones. But they are simply the bomb. Nothing better! All Your Base Are Belong To Us.

Sennheiser makes some nice ones. My wife borrowed mine a couple years ago ... now I just keep buying and trying loudspeakers. The current Primus 360 are very pleasant

I replaced my trusty old Koss cans (circa 1985) last year with a pair of Grado 60s. Great buy.

When I'm sitting at this thing, I use one of two Sennheisers. If I'm editing music, I use the 280Pro and if I'm doing something else - like now - I use 600's driven by the Musical Fidelity X-CAN v3. For carry around iPod stuff, I use Shure E3C's driven by a Headroom total Airhead. Let's face it. It's the music that counts, and phones let us enjoy it when we might not otherwise be able to.

I own the Sony 7506's and the Grado 60's and 80's, but am looking to upgrade and would buy the Grado 225's or more if the ear pads were more comfortable.

I find the Sony's a little too muddy in the lower base and might consider the 280's or the 580/600's. I to listen on phones alot and keep thinking about the Entymotics and Shures since I also use an IPod. At a street price of $99 the 280's might be a good buy. Comments.

Man I just got my 225's, they blow the 280's out of the water, if you do not like the way they fit, i would suggest checking out the 580's/600's, though I have not heard those, I would think they are much better then the 280's. To me the 280's do not play the tune well, I mean you can hear detail, but when it comes down to keeping the tune and playing the beat the grado's run all over them. Anyway, just my 2 cents. I hope you find a good pair of cans. I used www.headphone.com to look at all the different options.

Has anyone tried out thier headphone amps?

It took a while to get used to in-ear phones, but they do a nice job and can be toted around easily. The only fair comparison I can make with other phones is with the Etymotic E36i's. I got my wife a pair of those because she wanted a color match with her iPod (aren't women great). I think the Shures provide a flatter, more balanced sound than the Etymotics, and I prefer that.

There are mods for Grados and other headphones here on these sites. Mods for pads, and other mods, for comfort and also sound.
Also, a headphone amp from Woo Audio,or HeadRoom or something may help too,for good sound.

Ok,,theres a good start for research for headphone mods etc.

This is my first post here. Although ive been reading stereophile regularly for years, and look at the site, for some reason i really havent looked at the Stereophile forums. I mostly look the the head-fi forums.
Oh,and i love my Grado 80's . Great for portable as well as home use, have an 1/8" plus, and wont break the bank.
The sock mod makes them more comfy,as well as gives you the ability to tune them a bit as to closeness to your ear,and size of the opening that covers the ear,and with different socks,or other pad materials you can aborb more or less treble if youd like. Also to me,best bang for the buck portable headphones are the KOSS Pro-1 for about $20. Cant beat them for the money. Ok,have fun!

In the past, I've found the AKG cans were usually just off the pace. But recently they've come out with a K701 and K601, and, boy, are they good. Pricy, but good!
