Does anyone own, or have auditioned the Ayre CX-7e CD-player?
What can be said about the players character (neutral, soundstage, resolution etc), and overall concerning pricevalue towards others in similar price-range?
Anonymous: Thanks for your response. However the Cyrus is never going to be any choice to me. Today I'm having the Quad 99 CD-P, which I'm satisfied with. Going from the Quad is not going to be the lift I'm looking for.
I just spent three days with the Ayre C7e. My current system is a Sony XA777ES, Ayre K1xe preamp, Krell FPB300cx, and Revel Studio speakers.
The Ayre beats my Sony hands down. Its funny but the two sound similar in many ways but the musicality of the Ayre destroyed my objective A/B comparison of the two CD players. I just wanted to listen to the Ayre all the time. Its inner detail, harmonic trueth, macro and micro dynamics extended highs, and dynamic bass were all better then I've ever heard. Compared to what? Well I've auditioned the big megabucks Boulder, the BAT, the Sony 9000, and the Cary 303/300. The Ayre plays music better then any of these others. So why don't I have one? Well I'm about to audition the big Ayre C5xe universal player. So for me its between these two Ayre products. One last remark. The Ayre is exceptional for accousic instruments like piano, guitar, strings, brass, and voice. If you are into rock or other music using a lot of electronic instruments I'd probably not recommend spending $3000 US on the C7.

I've just auditioned the Ayre C-5xe for some weeks...
(My first idea was to audition the C-7xe, which i could not find).
I must say the C-5xe are an excellent player, and I've ordered one...
I fully agree upon your description for the C7 (most likely they have the same tonal balance/character)
I would just like to add on fantastic; 3D-perspective, soundstage, imaging, timbre and depth.
The way you also describe musicality are one of the strongest points, it "sounds the way music were intended".
After being auditioning one C-5Xe I went ahead and bought one, which I've now had for some time.
I can only say that I strongly recommend the player, and that I totally agree upon what I've been reading in recent reviews (Stereophile, Absolute Sound and Hifi+)!!
It plays the music with such an ease and musicality, together with an extremely good resolution.
