I have been spinning Pearl Jam and System of a Down's Mezmorize. The SOD was a hard find, it is a limited edition picture disc. I have also been checking out some mogwia a friend recommended to me, it is pretty sweet.

You are here
I've been listening to lots of Arcade Fire, Richard Buckner, M Ward, and John Vanderslice. I'm also interested in picking up the new CocoRosie and Nada Surf.
Check these two bands out, you will not regret it.

Audio Fidelity
Tim
Im into Dream theater at the moment , and everything that the members have done. But give me a week and there will be a differnt answer
Erin McKeown's - We Will Become Like Birds, the
Walkabouts - Setting the Woods on Fire, Richard Thompson - Front Parlour Ballands and the Blasters - 4-11-44.

Richard Thompson
Love that guy !!
Just got "Janis" - two 180 gram Columbia discs expecting fine mono copies of some of the Big Brother stuff. Got that and more. One whole disc of early Janis with great delta blues accompaniment on guitar (sometimes bass). Can't believe how good the pure blues vocals are. Technically maybe not rock, but certainly not jazz or classical. Worth ten time the price. Columbia PG33345.
I like 3 Doors Down!
If you like Pearl Jam mabye you should look for 3 Doors Down? I visited a concert (in Stockholm, Sweden) with them earlier this summer, great!
david hasselhoff
just kidding, at the moment Art Garfunkel : A heart in New York/Live is what's spinning in my cd
Dude Dream Theater rocks! I have also been checking out the latest megadeth (from the past year), it really rocks, I also like system of a down, though that is a different type of rock, but still good stuff. Which DT do you like the best? I really like Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence.
I have also been listening to Pearl Jams Rear View Mirror on LP, man that is a good set...
The Nirvana collection is also really good on LP...
Amos Lee is spinning right now. What a great recording.
Just before this I was playing the latest by the Foo Fighters. The second disc is an acoustic disc that is really nice.
Quote:Amos Lee is spinning right now. What a great recording.
Can you tell me a little more about that Amos Lee album? I've been curious.
Thanks very much.
yep, Amos Lee is great
I have his self titled album "Amos Lee", I guess this is the only full lenght album he has released.
Track list
01: Keep It Loose Keep It Tight
02: Seen It All Before
03: Arms Of A Woman
04: Give It Up
05: Dreaming
06: Soul Suckers
07: Colors
08: Bottom Of The Barrel
09: Black River
10: Lies Of A Lonely Friend
11: All My Friends
He is one of those guys that is really hard to categorize.
Several record stores classify him as jazz.
He is at times a little rock, a little jazz, a hint of blues and a pinch of country. I really find artists that are a mix of styles like this really fun to listen to.
The recording is super pristine. It is now one of my reference audiophile recordings. It is that good. Pay special attention to "Black River". It is one of those tracks worthy of a few hits of the repeat button.
I'll definitely pick it up. Thanks.
Ah, here's my chance to spread the word on a disc that is both great sounding and made of worthy material!
Garland Jeffries "Ghost Writer" LP is among the possessions I would run toward if I had to evacuate my home.
Great sax sound, clean vocal renderings, and soul!
It never made it to CD, as far as my searching goes. But it's worth buying a turntable to be able to play this disc.
I just got some records today over at a local shop called whetstone audio (www.whetstoneaudio.com), man his selection is getting groovy, he has all types of stuff! I picked up some Hendrix and Mogawi, hopefully I will get to check them out tomorrow.
There are so many record shops opening in Austin, Tx (where I live), we must have at least 6 or 7 record shops not including all the used book stores that carry LP's!
If you are ever near Austin make sure you leave some room for the records you will buy!
Here is a list some places that sell LP's in Austin
La Tejanita Record Shop (spainish and tejano)
Antone's Record Store (blues and more)
End of an Eara (punk and lots of other cool finds)
Waterloo Records (one of the coolest independently owned records shops!)
Half Price Books (the lamar shop has a great selection with LP's starting at $1!)
Sound on Sound (haven't been here, but have heard good things.)
Turntable Records (again, haven't been here, but hear it is good)
Music Mania (I need to go check this place out too, evidently has a good selection of Hip Hop and R7B)
Whetstone Audio (a hifi shop that carries music??? Yup!!! Brian has a great selection of funk, blues, soul, rock and other great stuff!)
Lucky you! here in East Central Florida I don't know of even one record shop ( or Good Audio store, either).
Ghost Writer is indeed a fabulous record. 100% great songs, no filler!
I met Garland Jeffries when I managed a record press and asked him then (1981) why Ghost Writer had never been re-issued. He said he didn't own the rights and there seemed to be some murkiness as to who did. At any rate, he didn't seem optimistic that it would ever be released again. Incidently, if you liked his version of "Wild in the Streets," you should check out Chris Spedding's from his album Hurt. Verily, it rocketh.
Lately, I've found myself returning to Dire Straits On Every Street and Communique. Other recent listenings include Steely Dan Gaucho (Third World Man is especially tasty); Two Against Nature (Jack of Speed; West of Hollywood); John Lee Hooker Don't Look Back.
I am quickly falling in love with Smog's A River Ain't Too Much to Love .
Sparse and quiet compositions; folksy and bluesy, with lyrics like:
So bury me in wood
And I will splinter
Bury me in stone
And I will quake
Bury me in water
And I will geyser
Bury me in fire
And I'm gonna phoenix
I'm gonna phoenix
That's awesome.
Some discs that have been getting regular play around here:
SACD 2 channel listening:
Joe Weed :
I've been revisiting Delbert McClinton's "One of the Fortunate Few", Chris Rea's "Espresso Logic", and Jimmy Buffett's "Banana Wind" as of late. The McClinton disc is an HDCD recording that really shows off his unique talent.
I'm also quite fond of Country music and blues. Lots of Merle Haggard, Albert Collins and Johnny Copeland bouncing off my walls these days.
I've been listening to the following down here in Brazil:
1) Mark Knopfler - "Shangrila"
2) The Kinks - "Come Dance with the Kinks"
3) Los Hermanos - "4" and "Ventura" (Brazilian pop group - very very good)
4) Jude - "Sarah"
5) Prozak for Lovers
# 4 and 5 are american indie records from www.cdbaby.com and "Los Hermanos" can be found at Amazon
If you're not yet familiar with a guitarist and composer who goes by the name of Johnny A. (http://www.johnnya.com/) you'll do well to buy his two solo CDs. Once you begin listening to Johnny A., you will soon come to realize that he's essentially achieved complete mastery of his instrument, and his musical arrangements and tastes are of the highest order of (often) understated hipness and elegance. Not to be missed.
Not exactly rock but I have been listening to Olivia Newton-John's "Gold" compilation.
Also beening listening to the SACD of Journey's "Greatest Hits"....this is a very underrated band.
I finally hopped on the Sufjan Stevens cross-country train, and purchased Illinoise. Am happy I did.
Roy Buchanan 'You're Not Alone'
Chris Rea - 'Road to Hell'
Dusty Springfield - 'Dusty In Memphis'
IMO, the Buchanan LP is a must have. I just got the Dust Springfield reissue and am actually pretty disappointed in it.
BDT
I've been dying over The Magic Numbers album. Geez louise, I want to just bang my head up against the poppy goodness. They've been drawing comparisons to Lovin Spoonful, the Mamas & the Papas, and the Flaming Lips. Strangely, the lead singer kinda reminds me of Aaron Neville, but I might be way off on that.
Check it out: http://www.themagicnumbers.net/
David Gray - Life In Slow Motion
Kasabian - Kasabian
Super Furry Animals - Love Kraft (import SACD)
Fiona Apple - Extraordinary Machine (DualDisc)
Richard Hawley - Coles Corner
Ryan Adams & The Cardinals - Jacksonville City Nights
Bill
David Benoit/Piano/This side UP LP Format
Stunning full freq disc.
Still spinning Sufjan Stevens, New Pornographers,Wolf Parade,Editors(import)and John Cale, waiting for the new Kate Bush. Best discs of the year so far: Antony and the Johnsons, Andrew Bird,Sufjan Stevens,The Decemberists and Feist.

Great picks, garysi. Though I can't stand that Antony and the Johnsons album - I just don't dig the androgyny, I think - I'm with you on everything else. I read somewhere that the Editors album is like a much more upbeat Antics. Any truth to that?
Stephen, upbeat is a good description, though I think the Editors is the album that Interpol would love to make. As far as Antony, we just caught the performance at Carnegie and that is where I really learned to appreciate him. If you want to see him in a great clip check out the trailer at http://www.leonardcohenimyourman.com/ PS: this looks like it could be a great flick. I also just pulled out my old Neutral Milk Hotel(still a GREAT disc) Just ordered the Magic Numbers disc, I'll let you know what I think when it comes.

Wow, alright - you just made me reconsider. And, yes - this looks like it's going to be an awesome movie; something to look forward to. Thanks.
I hope you like the Magic Numbers.
Currently listening the heck out of Silver Jews - "Tanglewood Numbers."
Well Stephen the jury is still out on the Magic Numbers, though Silver Jews is a definite winner. I just pre-ordered the new Kate Bush "Aerial". I listened to a download today and even though she can do no wrong is my book,( I am 50 and have been following her from '78) she is a genius. Madonna, Bjork, Fiona, Tori, Sarah and the rest(including the men) all need to bow down to the goddess. If this low fi download in any indication, the CD could be audiophile heaven(she always had great sounding recordings). Tomorrow night it's Rufus Wainwright at the Beacon. Next week, Andrew Bird at the Bowery.
My favorite group and imho, probably one of the greatest rock bands,if not the best,is Pink Floyd but usually,i play a lot of Steve Harley or Shakatak.
p.s. if anyone whishes to try some Steve harley, just concentrate on the music or else, they might take you for a psycho lol

Oh, man - I'm jealous. I wanted to see Rufus Wainwright (and Regina Spektor), but the price of the tix was a bit too steep for me. Andrew Bird, however, I might be able to swing.
Today, while I complete our Index to Volume 28, I'll be listening to:
Silver Jews
Andrew Bird (which I do love)
My Morning Jacket
New Pornographers
Oh, man - I'm jealous. I wanted to see Rufus Wainwright (and Regina Spektor)
To keep it short for now: Rufus being crucified while singing Gay Messiah in what appeared to be an evening toga in lavender. You just had to be there.

That sounds pretty cool. I'm up for it. Maybe we could meet up with other Forum participants and form a clique? (Maybe I mean claque.)
I think the Andrew Bird CD is pretty spiffy, too. Still got to buy the Silver Jews, though.
Sounds good to me, Wes. I just sent a reply to Stephen and we can meet at the Ballroom. I am really looking forward to the show and meeting the two of you. If we're lucky some other readers may show.
BTW Stephen, Thanks for the suggestion, I can't get the opening track(Mornings Eleven) of the Magic Numbers out of my head.
Glad to hear I'm not the only Garland Jefferys fan. It's a real shame that this guy is so overlooked. I'm spinning Guts For Love as I type this. Great funky soul!
We can thank Corporate Radio for such overlooked talent! Maybe one day radio will really be about music. Now if I could only find his latest disc!
I've had great luck with Gemm:
Link to Gemm search for Garland Jeffreys. Several pages worth.
He also has a few discs for sale at his website: www.garlandjeffreys.com

Like you, I always wondered how so much crap got so much airplay. Now, with the new payola scandals hitting, it 'splains alot!
Cheers!
My preference is Blues.
The last 2 weeks I've been listening to Robben Ford & the Blue Line, William Clarke, Rod Piazza & the Mighty Flyers- specifically Harp Burn, Gary Primich, Mark Hummel.
As you can see, I kinda like the harp.
Quite a lot of David Bowie, lately. Picked up the two DVD-Audios, "David Live" and "Stage", not too many weeks ago. And I received Bowie's "At The Beeb" CD for Christmas.
Also in frequent rotation is the Dualdisc/DVD-A of Jamie Cullum's "Twentysomething". I've had this for months now, but I just don't seem to tire of it. I really should pick up his new CD.
And last, but not least, is The Temptations - "The Ultimate Collection" CD. I picked it up after watching The Temptations movie on VH1 about 3 or 4 weeks ago. I never really gave them a single thought prior to that. And, yeah... I know some of the Temps stuff is bubblegum, but darn-it, I seem to really like it!
