Boulder 1021 Updated

Boulder has updated their 1021 disc player, reviewed by John Atkinson last July, adding an ethernet jack on the back and an iPhone app to control multiple streams of content such as a NAS drive on the network or media server. Boulder's Rich Maez says the new player is currently in the debugging stage and should be available near the end of January for $24,000.

Welcome to 2010...the year of the $25,000 disc players!(see EMM and TAD)What recession?

What about a red glowing "Emergency" button on the front side panel (on the next version; which would be possibly sold for say 28.000-USD). This button will dial up 911 through Ethernet when you push it desperately (while trying to escape from your attacking wife who learned that you have spent 28.000-USD for a CD player)

You will be fine if you simply buy your wife a $30K Hermes hand bag :)

Begs the question--why do you even need a disk player? Disk player prices are going in the wrong direction.

Price or not, what's with the display screen that looks ripped from a 1978 pong screen? I mean, we live in the age of beautifully clear iPhones and a plethora of dynamic interfaces. This screen sends the whole thing back a decade before CD players even existed!

All the equipment so far posted from the CES are priced in the stratosphere. If the CES is to stop shrinking and the hi-fi industry is to survive, manufacturers are going to have to come down to earth. These prices are ridiculous...Thank god for Audiogon.

BTW, well said Doug Bowker!!!!

They only need to sell one at these prices. I wonder if the sound is better than a 999 dollar iMAC coupled with a HRT or Musical Fidelity 300 DAC. A fool and his money are soon parted.

MS DOS or Windows 3.1? Such a retro look? Wondering if they wlll make a Windows ME version next

A 90 USD Pioneer DVD player DV 410K is an excellent competitor for this piece! I am sure both will sound same...This would save me USD 23'910. I would take my wife for a safari with this!

I wouldn't pay $2000 for this. A MAC and a $300 DAC would be a better call.

For $24 big ones, you'd think the 1981-era screen could actually show the artist's name in full? No, will that be a feature in the $40,000 upgrade. They must think folks are idiotic lemmings.

Before buying one of these, think of the poor injured children in Haiti and see if you can see it in your heart to throw a c-note their way. Ciao, Bob

As I said in my review, the point of using large characters on the screen is that they can be easily seen from across the room. Text that would be too wide scrolls, but that can't be shown in a still photo, of course.

How about a bigger screen?

Does the manufacturer allow the reviewer to, ahem, "borrow" the equipment? Now I understand the concept of break in. Break in is the period required before the reviewer gets comped with new equipment.

Very silly product. One would seemingly have self-esteem issues to buy this.

I just came seeing this. Wow.
