At least that's what Kevin Deal called the $1395 PrimaLuna Prologue Eight CD player.

"What's so different about it?" I asked.

"Two words," Kevin said. "Tube clock! That means linear ultra-low-jitter performance."

Other details: Tube rectified power supply; dual mono, zero-feedback output stage, and custom designed isolation transformers separating the analog and digital circuits.

Maybe other PL gear didn't always measure... uh... quite as one would expect, but even so and with this piece's ungainly visual marriage of two decades (perhaps 60's for the tube penthouse and 70's for the blocky faceplate) this looks like a winner. Or maybe also because of looks...and I do mean plural.
