These Are Pretty, She Wrote

“These are pretty,” she wrote. Attached to the e-mail was a picture of the new Davone Ray loudspeaker. Pretty, indeed.

Introduced at the popular and successful Munich High End Show, the Ray is the second offering from Denmark’s Davone. Like its predecessor, the striking Rithm, the Ray employs a coaxial driver configuration: A 1” tweeter is situated at the center of an 8” woofer. Sensitivity is specified as 89dB. The speaker measures approximately 28” H x 23” W x 18” D and weighs just 25lbs. With its unusual elliptical shape and sleek steel stands, the Ray resembles a pair of extremely hip sunglasses. Its front and back baffles are covered in black leather. Sexy.

Plus: Chicks dig them.

US distribution comes through The Signal Collection. Limited shipments of the Davone Ray are expected by the end of this month, with more to come in September. Retail price is $5995/pair.

At first glance I thought that was some new fangeled pommel horse. Or maybe the cross section of a pommel horse. The new Focal Maestro is sexy, as is the new Wilson Sophia series 3. They just don't look like they're inviting me to pull up a seat. Sorry.

If Wall E. mated with a piece of wood their offspring would look like these speakers.

Beautiful little example of MCM pastiche, indeed. Only problem, one suspects, is that you're buying $6000 worth of "design" and getting $99 worth of sound.
