Copper Rose and Neon Glow

Paul Lim then introduced me to the diminutive NuForce Reference 9 monoblock amps ($4200/pair) in their very attractive Rose Copper Special Edition finish. I'm all about the fancy colors, y'all.

I was impressed to find these little guys driving the hefty JAS Audio Plato loudspeakers ($24,800/pair).

The discs were spun by Esoteric, power conditioning by Furutech, and mercurial glow by Passthru.

John Atkinson caught the cables' strange glow on film, but, in reality, they were plain-Jane. Can anyone tell us why they appear to be glowing?

>Anything that comes out of the wall in a hotel is perfectly ordinary electical juice. Hmm. I'm not so sure if that's true for some of the hotels I've stayed at.

This makes me wonder how a string of Christmas tree lights used as speaker cable would work out;)

If John used a digital camera that had an automatic gain setting, where the impulses from the camera get scaled so that the largest value represents white, this might provide a plausible answer. If he used a flash and the surface of the cables was more reflective than the dull, brushed aluminum of the amps (which would tend to diffuse light) and the cables caught the light and were the brightest objects framed," the impulses from less reflective objects might be insignificant in comparison to the 'white-level' so that the contrast might become enhanced. The cables might appear ""blown out""... just a guess.

A few cable brands actually use reflective material in their outer jackets. It looks like that's what's happening here, JAs' camera flash bouncing back from the cable jakets.

Hey, I was just trying to introduce some tubes into my system on the cheap! BTW, I preferred the non blinking type.

Anything that comes out of the wall in a hotel is perfectly ordinary electical juice. It does not affect the sound. Really. Not at all. Scout's Honor!
