Linn Product Recall

On June 16, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced a product recall in voluntary cooperation with equipment manufacturer and distributor Linn. The notice asks that consumers stop using the recalled products immediately, unless otherwise instructed.

Products affected by the recall include the Linn AV5150 2-Channel Power Amplifier (all serial numbers of this model are recalled), the Linn LK240 Single-Channel Power Amplifier (all serial numbers of this model are recalled), and the Linn AV5150 Melodik Bass Extension Loudspeaker System (only serial numbers 1001–714451 are recalled). The model numbers and serial numbers are on the front panel, printed on the bottom of the product, or on the control panel near the main power supply.

The CPSC reports 70 confirmed incidents with the products, including two reports of heat damage to the cover of the connected speakers. No injuries have been reported. According to the CPSC statement, "the amplifier's capacitors can overheat, blow a fuse, and damage the products to which they are connected, presenting a fire hazard."

The recall affects 2157 products manufactured in Scotland and sold at specialty retail stores worldwide from May 1996 through December 2003. The CPSC and Linn advise consumers to stop using the amplifiers immediately and contact Linn (in the US and Canada) at (800) 595-6770 for information on how to obtain free repair of the recalled product. A full list of all current retailers and distributors around the world can be found at http://www.linn.co.uk/buy_linn/find_retailer.cfm. Consumers wishing to deal with the company directly can complete a recall form on Linn's website. Linn says that all repairs are offered free of charge.
