Andrzej Szczeklik muses on how deeply rhythm is rooted in the body. I think I have to add Catharsis to my must-read list.

Nice animated short that's one part Green Lantern, one part The Monkey's Paw, and one part Brazil—that is, if you also watch the director's cut ending.

Unreleased Fillmore East, Fillmore West, and Winterland performances available as 128kbps streams. I haven't been able to get it working completely glitch free, but some of these performances are pretty amazing and I'd buy 'em if they were available in a non-compromised format. Wolfgang, BTW, was Bill Graham's birth name.

I emailed my cousin, the gorgeous and talented Jean Carwile Masteller, about the wonders of reading Cotton Mather on the internets and she countered with the fabulous Whitman Hypertext Archive. Both are courtesy of the University of Virginia's digital library project, where my old friend Thorny Staples is helping Mr. Jefferson's university do wonders in the electronic age.

At CES2006, we were pleasantly surprised to encounter Jim Shannon in Quartet Marketing Group's exhibit room at the Alexis Villas. "What are you doing these days?" we asked. He gestured around the room. "I'm a partner in Quartet," he said. "I've been here since July."

A University of Michigan research team under Kensall D. Wise has developed a ribbon-like cochlear implant that substantially increases the amount of auditory stimuli over the current models. Approximately 100,000 patients have had cochlear implants to ameliorate profound deafness; however, Wise described these implants as limited in frequency sensitivity, as well as bulky and difficult for surgeons to insert.

Genesis Advanced Technologies was formed in 1991 to manufacture loudspeakers designed by industry veteran Arnie Nudell, who was responsible, with Cary Christie, for some of high-end audio's highest-performing models when both were at Infinity Systems. The company was acquired a few years back by Gary Leonard Koh and some of his friends, but Nudell remains with the company as Chief Scientist and the company has offices and a production facility in Seattle.
