That one is getting a little too far over the line.

Plus, with the Bush administration's Patriot Act, the government will know Lamont Sanford at your IP address is unhappy.

Some other articles are mentioning that we are required to go through insurance companies and feed their bottom line as part of our coverage requirement. One article mentioned an average expected cost per family of over 12 grand.

Some people may choose the fine if they can't afford universal 'protection.'

Not sure just how badly this is going to be mangled.

Will Blue Cross become the Blackwater of health care - murderous mercenaries without adequate supervision?

Oh, well, Goldman Sachs will do OK, which is what the government is really all about, anyway.

For every freeloader who's out there with no insurance and shows up to the emergency room for a cold (or one that turned into something worse), you and I pay that much or more, EVERY year in increased insurance costs. I say fine 'em so that they actually have to pay for their care (which that $1000 wouldn't even cover). Better them than me.

We did the same thing in Mass. BTW and it's working- we got everyone covered and over time the state will save a lot of money. Mitt Romney signed the bill in case anyone's asking.

Well, if it works for Mass than why don't we leave this up to the states to decide and the bums will have 50 choices. Fining bums makes no sense. They have no money. What are we going to do to them if they don't pay? Make them bums?

What happened to the Democrats? They want to squeeze money out of everything including rocks and bums. I guarantee you that if the government feels a bum can pay a fine for not buying something the government will come after everybody for any number of things.

It doesn't even occur to the Democrats that most people don't have up to a $1,000 to pay for a fine. Remember, this is a period of the Great Depression. Yeah, go after bums. That makes perfect sense during a Great Depression. Good fluck with that.

It feels so good to be an independent now. I get to slam all kinds. I love it. It feels like Freedom.

I remember Romney. He is the guy that lost to McCain of all people.

Yes there are 'freeloaders' who suck on the system, unfortuantely. Free healthcare is intended for those who honestly can't afford it, is a 'compassion' thing. I hate to see that go away. Are you saying that a no-compassion system is better?

Don't forget that concept from old communist Russia that 'those that don't work also don't get to eat'. If so, there would not be a Peace Corps, or other benovelent societies.

The other problems are that this society tends to legislate to solve problems that are not law-driven. How much sense does it make to charge a fee for bouncing a check if one didn't have the money? How much sense does it make to raise the interest rate on a credit card for someone who didn't have the money and make it even harder to repay? Those penalties hurt the honest guys and the dishonest guys don't care anyway.

Do you think two bums sitting under a bridge tonight are afraid they are going to get a fine for not buying health insurance. How many people voted for Obama and can't afford health insurance and now they are going to get a fine for not having health insurance? Obama is bringing the fun back into politics. The key words in my quote above are, "Americans who refuse to buy affordable medical coverage..." What is "affordable" coverage? A $1,000 copay and a $30,000 maximum coverage. Something like that will save the taxpayer dick. These bums will default on the premium payments. Affordable my ass. These people have no insurance of any kind. We can't even get them to keep their vehicles insured. What "we" need is uninsured Americans coverage. A premium we pay to defray the costs of those American with no health care coverage. Just like car insurance. Government didn't come up with the idea of uninsured motorists coverage. The insurance industry did that. The current federal government lawmakers feel it is their job to provide health coverage to all Americans. Why is it the job of the government? The Constitution only gives us the right to pursue happiness. It does not guarantee it. Our government should stop guaranteeing shit that the private sector can solve more efficiently. This current president is doing the same thing on domestic problems the previous president did on national security. I'm waiting for an op/ed in Stereophile on the current Federal government buying shit until its broke and then turning around and selling a bill-of-goods to the American people and laying it on the lap of the current president. That is what I would like to see for some stupid reason.
