Same goes for Legacy Audio. Fit and finish is better than any furniture in my house. The SOUND, is even better. The cabinet work takes quite some time according to the master at speaker building, Bill D.
We have a saying in the inner city. "The nicer the nice the higher the price".
But if they cost as much as a car, there is just something basically askew, imho. I can see $7500 list for a pair of k-horns, and a set of B&W 801D's upwards of $10,000 -- maybe, considering the R&D. But $40k for a pair of Wilsons? That's just nuts!
Sure, that's just nuts. I keep saying that to myself too, but when I win the lottery or have a really good day at the track I might be willing to change my tune. Chances are, though, I'd just move way up in the Sonus Faber line.
Have you ever asked yourself, DUP, why the Legacy folks who have admittedly invested significant amounts in materials and a tender loving care fit and finish would do so in executing such a horribly ugly design? If, like you, I was convinced they offered the best sound available, I'd have to hide them behind a curtainor something. Just having to look at those ugly devils would distract my attention from even the most beautiful music. What you see, does make a difference, that's why symphony players dress so well
They look GREAT, they ain't the standard BOX. Think outside the box....the round top the marvelous base, exquisite woodwork and finish...the SOUND!!!! The back is better than most speakers fronts...work of art.
To each his own, said the farmer as he kissed the cow.
Ah, Sonus Faber! The most lust-inducing loudspeakers I have ever seen! Yes, yes, if money was no object (lottery, inheritance, crime - whatever!) I would own a pair. Perhaps Cremonas. Shoot, I'd be thrilled with the Domos! And the only SF's I've ever heard were a pair of stand-mounted two-ways!! (I forget the model.)
Well, I've heard the Wilson X1 and the Watt/Puppy and didn't care for either. For what the top end Wilson costs you can buy two pair of MBL 101e's and have money left over for the electronics. What a surround system that would make, eh?
I agree with you about the Wilsons and i would like to add something.Imposing they may be but man , they are Ugly !!!
If i could afford a $70,000,00 plus pair of loudspeakers , i'd go for Rockport or Genesis.
THIS I want to see reviewed, THIS has to be the ULTIMATE, we don't need no stinik' Wilsons, RockPorts, http://www.legacyaudio.com/2004/helix.html
If you can quess the brand of loudspeakers ! Only one quess per person
