Many "Greatest Composers of the 20th Century" lists would include Copland, Gershwin, et al, but could also include Roy Orbison, Lennon-McCartney, and Scott Joplin. Who is your favorite?

Gershwin is perhaps the most influencial composer of the 20th century. He shaped the music of Hollywood and musicals all around the world.

Igor Stravinsky . . . he's not my favortie, but I would consider him the greatest. Sonically, the musical idioms that he coined, both texturally and rhythmically, have become part of our normal musical lexicon. I mean, watch an old Bugs Bunny cartoon and try NOT to find at least one "Stravinsky-ism" in it . . .

JOHN WILLIAMS. He has scored the music on the biggest movies ever made. Star wars, indiana jones, jaws, jurassic park. His work is instantly recognisable world wide across language and cultural barriers.
