I personally find the inexpensive digital amps to sound quite dreadful. The IcePower and Tripath boards are affordable so anyone can use one in a circuit, but it is the design and quality of the surrounding circuits that makes these amps sound good - this is where the expensive comes in.

Of those you mention, I would go with the Jolida.

Elk,

Thanks for the feedback... there seems to be so much hype around these Tripath amps, I feel like I need to give them a look. It seems like there is a new speaker market being created for these T-amps etc. My only concern with the Jolida is that it is the same technology that I would have purchased 10 years ago, but at the end of the day, I guess it's my ears that determine the winner!

One other question..... Jolida 301A or Rega Brio 3? I had other Rega equipment years ago and was really please with it, however, I like the hybrid SS/tube approach.

I don't know much about the Jolida, but I just bought a Rega Brio 3 and love it. It's very musical and accurate, and powers reasonably efficient loudspeakers effortlessly. Definitely listen to both, but I recommend the Rega unconditionally.

Digital amps can be quite nice but, perhaps because they are in their infancy, the less expensive ones tend to have a harsh sound. I suspect the fascination is their energy efficiency and the difference in design. In the future they may all be quite good, regardless of price, but we are not there yet.

I can't offer an opinion of the Rega v. the Jolida. I bet both would work really well for you. Lots of people love each - probably a really good sign.
