what's the truth about aluminum mid-woofer cones?...

do aluminum mid-woofer cones cause colorization of sound as i found in only one report? or are they a natural sounding cone? or would sandwich paper cone be better? thanks, john

Paper please!

Or quasi-ribbon and planar.

depends on implementation

MANY materials and/or construction can be excellent - or mediocre or bad.  Speaker manufacturers are always looking for the best blend of stiffness and light weight and other factors.  So you will find, among the best speakers, a full variety of materials and types, including those you and Jackfish mention above.
