What's Up With Emily Remler - "Catwalk"

Jazzfan stated in another thread:

4) Emily Remler - Catwalk (Concord Jazz LP/CD) - Why, oh why did the good Lord take this wonderfully talented young lady from us at such a young age.She was only 32 when she died. Remler didn't get to make many recordings in her all too brief life and this is one of her finest. John D'Earth's trumpet perfectly compliments Remler's full bodied guitar sound and the rhythm section of Eddie Gomez and overlooked Bob Moses keep things moving along quite nicely.

Well, if some of what I've read is true, I hardly think it was the good Lord who was sticking that needle in her arm. Although not credited as the cause of her death surely it didn't help.

BUT YOWZA! I've scoured the net and sampled this tasty disc but at the asking prices of 80-90 dollars, it makes your other favorite (dig) Jazz At The Pawn Shop look like a bargain! Seems to be some conflict as to if it's out of print or just hard to find. Any leads?

Well RG you read correctly, Remler had herself one hell of a heroin addiction and that drug usage was the direct cause of the heart attack that took her life. So I guess the Good Lord didn't have much to do with it other than not answering her prayers.

As for the high price of "Catwalk" and some of her other out of print recordings, they all have been given the Jazzfan Seal of Approval, which obviously accounts for their great popularity and high demand. My advice, next time don't wait when I make a recommendation since the price is sure to rise.

By the way, if I had "Catwalk" on CD I'd make you a copy but no can do since I only have the vinyl. However I do have two of her CDs, "East To Wes" and "Together" (with Larry Coryell), if these are also out of print I'll gladly send you copies so you can hear what all the fuss is about.

I am afraid that if we knew them all there are plenty of "Eva Cassidys" out there. Another is www.lauriez.com who also died in her early 30's of lung cancer that was detected too late. Another very talented performer. She can be found at www.cdbaby.com .
