What's up?

So somebody had to make the first post, I figured why not... Guess I will start by listing my current setup:

Front End: Technodeck with Reson Cart
Electronics: Crimson 610 pre and 630 power amp
Speakers: Loth-X ION BS1

I really enjoy my system, I have a couple hundred LP's I listen to and am always looking for more:)

Anyway, what is everyone else running these days?

Re: What's up?

Bryston SP1.7,

Bryston 9B SST,

B&W Speakers: 2 * 703, 2 * 705, HTM7, ASW 750,

Meridian G08, Denon DVD-5910,

Sony Wega 36" XBR,

& Other full house equipment (Niles Gloria, Roku hooked into my wireless home network for MP3 and AAC music, ceiling, wall and outdoor speakers, etc)

I'm saving up for a pair of B&W 802(d)s or 803(d)s (the 703s will be moved to surround and the 705s to the back for my setup for 7.1), a two channel amp for the 802s or 803s, and an 1080p DLP for when the Playstation 3 is released (Blu-Ray). Then I will likely save up and improve my center channel to an 8 series and stop there for awhile...

Re: What's up?

I use my office system for 95% of my music listening.

Marantz 67SE
Rotel RA970BX
Rotel RT935AX
psb Century 400i
Tara Labs interconnect (custom)
Tara Labs speaker cables (custom)

Until recently I was using Kimber PBJ interconnects and Audioquest Type4 cable. I go visit the fine folks at Sound Mind Audio with the intent on replacing my CD player. Brian says to me, "Can you stomach $400 for new cables and interconnects?" I swallow hard and say "If they make a $400 improvement in my sound I can!"

Brian sends me home with the wire to evaluate and with the obligatory speech about breaking them in and leaving my system on constantly. My first impressions (after totally ignoring his advice to leave the room while the cables are breaking in) were that these cables have to be the driest, most lifeless cables I've ever heard...but something was going on in the lower bass that was way cool. About an hour later I'm thinking these babies are fantastic in the bass region, but the higher frequencies and mid-bass are lean and dry...but I'm noticing a little more air around notes... and I think I just heard Dean Peer's fingernail hit his guitar body while playing "Lord's Tundra!" I've never noticed that before...hmm.

Six hours pass and I'm digging these cables more and more. The dry, brittle siblance has all but disappeard, the presentation moved about 2 feet back, the soundstage gained width and most importantly, depth. The air around notes and their decay both improved dramaticaly. The bass...OMG the bass! I'm hearing bass definition that I never knew was in some of my recordings.

Anyway, why am I rambling on about all this in an entry level hi-fi system? Mostly because this probably says more about me than simply saying what kind of gear I have and because I wanted to put in a plug for the best audio retailer I have ever had the pleasure of meeting...Brian Kurtz at Sound Mind Audio, Austin, Tx.
My future plans with my system are limited to an improved power conditioner and then I'm going to start seriously thinking about going the single ended route and a turntable. Yeah, I just had to listen to it while I was in the store, didn't I? I'm going to have a lot of explaining to do with my wife...

Re: What's up?

This is a great thread. My current system is:

Esoteric DV-50S
Oppo 971H
Theta Casablanca II
2 Krell Theater Amp Standards
2 Crown K-2s
Sim2 300e Projector
2 SVS B-4 Plus subs
Advanced Sound Campenilli speakers

The system is okay but I prefer my old system. It was:

Theta Data III
Theta GenVa DAC
BAT VK-Vi pre amp
2 Krell KSA 300S for woofers and midbass
BAT VK-120 mono blocks for midrange and tweeters
2 Bryston 10-B xovers
Magnepan MG-20s.

At long last, I have decided to scratch the idea of combining HT and audio. I'm thinking seriously about not just separating them but taking the audio stuff back to tubes and LPs. I'll be doing a blog on it in the next few days. Hope you guys will tune in.
