Well, this is a tuff one. but I think that performance from Coltrane,G.Washington,J.Redman,Barbieri,Freeman,Rollins and others are among the more seductives and envolving notes you can heard. The saxophone has a way to present the feeling and mood of the player that bounds you to the musician. It can make you cry , jump , dance, it is incredible the sensations you can percive.

Drums. A good drum beat makes or breaks a song. My second choice is the piano. The piano is a seldom-used instrument in rock'n'roll music. Current/classic bands who utilized both: the Doors, the Doobies, the Dead, possibly Harry Connick, Jr., and of course, Phish.
