Grand piano, because it fasninates me when good music is played at a very good stereo system.

Without a doubt, the female voice. Listening to Ella Fitzgerald can give me the shivers on her best recordings, and warm-and-fuzzies on the rest. I can't spend too much time with her "American Songbook" recordings; I'm always ready to fire up the amp for more.

The guitar. I own three of them, so I may be prejudiced, but it's the music of Hendrix, Fripp, Steve Morse, Gabrels, et al., that really boils my blood. Do I wish more people chose other instruments? Absolutely! How many featured clarinet players have you heard lately? But I'm a guitar man, so I guess I'm part of the problem.

French horn wins for sound quality and versatility. French horns belong in orchestras, large and small ensembles, jazz bands, woodwind quintets, and have even appeared on some rock'n'roll albums and several movie soundtracks. You just can't beat a good French horn section for great tunes anywhere. (Just don't march with them.)

The electric guitar, by far the most important invention of the 20th century.

Nothing beats the nasal tones of the bassoon, the oboe is sweet, but the bassoon just has a sound that sits in there with the bagpipes and the French horn. If I had the chance to do it over again, I would have played that big boy instead of the contrabass clarinet (and all other clarinets). Woodwinds are it for me.

I'm tied with the piano and violin. I find the piano powerful and very smooth. The violin offers violent and dramatic pace coupled with raspy finesse.

Piano, especially a Steinway D. Sounds great, and is wonderful to record using a Crown SASS-P and a DAT.
