At Stereophile we often gets requests for product reviews. What would you like to see reviewed?
All the most obvious products people will consider when looking for something new in a certain categorynot just a few over and overor the ones almost no one will consider because they cost more than a couple of decent cars. Instead of reviewing the TNT for the nth time because there's a new "Mark" or something, I believe a lot of people, like me, say, "Okay, I know the TNT is good, but what about the Michell GyroDec or the Nottingham Analogue? What about the M
With higher-resolution digital formats on the way and the threat of multichannel audio being forced down the public's throat, it's not safe to buy anything except speakers, amplifiers, and accessories. Because I, like most people under 55, listen primarily to rock music, I'm only interested in systems that can play loud as well as clean. Preferably, the speakers reviewed would show maximum power handling, and corresponding output levels from 20Hz to 20kHz in the measurements section, especially since Audio magazine won't be around to do this anymore. Currently, the products I'm most interested in are: Amplifiers: Solid-state and at least 200Wpc ($1000-$4000). Speakers: True full-range speakers, with at least one 10" or two 8" woofers per cabinet, preferably 12" three-ways/four-ways ($2000-$6000). Cables: Speaker cables ($7-$20/foot), interconnects ($70-$200/pair), and power cables ($150-$300). I have no interest in the three Ts: tube equipment, turntables, or expensive tweaks.
I'd love to see more reviews of CD players, amps, and preamps in the $1000-$2000 range. The $2000-and-under-market is huge, yet your magazine never seems to concentrate on that area. Most folks will find a way to purchase something under two grand, but the minute that the prices start to climb above that limit, they look elsewhere. Help out the "$2k" crowd. Review more "truly affordable" products. Then I'll think about renewing my subcription!
there is a steady stream of biographies, musical memoirs and other literature related to music, music reproduction, the management of artists, concerthalls etc., as well as forays into the business side of music. please review....
