Proac Future One New "radical" design from a conservative British Company ?
At Stereophile we often gets requests for product reviews. What would you like to see reviewed?
Here's a list: 1) MartinLogan Scenario speakers. 2) B&W Nautilus 804 and 802 speakers. 3) More good mid-price ($1500-$2500) CD players. 4) All the new SACD players, as they become available. 5) More stuff I can afford (under $3000 per component).
1) Products useful in building a decent audio system around a computer: soundcards, computer speakers, CD-ROM drives, etc. Currently, my stereo is hooked up to my TV, and my kids use it most of the time. Due to space limitations and time constraints, my only reasonable hope for listening to music on a hi-fi system is while I am at my computer. 2) A group review in every issue. For example, what's the best integrated amp under $1k? Rather than review one such amp this month and another amp six months later, I'd rather see a review of 3-5 amps (even reviewing only 2 amps together would be a welcome improvement) that are directly comparable price-wise, with all amps compared to each other. I don't think your reviews do enough comparisonsthey typically don't even compare the product being reviewed with the most highly respected products in the same category and price range. 3) While it wouldn't be strictly a product review, I would like to see, perhaps once or twice a year, a description of a "dream system" for particular price points ($3k, $5k, $10k, etc.) that works synergistically together, with perhaps some alternate choices for the various components, and an explanation of how the set of components was arrived at. You review individual components, but hardly spend any space on how components interact with one another; e.g., how well different components match with other components.
Affordable (Less than $2500), High efficiency (92+dB),Tube friendly (Mild impedance and phase curve) loudspeakers. Actually, I'd like to see 50% or more of your reviews dedicated to equipment under $2500. My interest in expensive gear has evaporated with the knowledge that I'll never own any of it. One CAN dream, can't one?
Receivers. This is the area where most of the dollars are spent, and it's where there is the least amount of useful information. What we need to know is which receivers will drive which speakers, what features are they missing, etc.
Some of the rare European very-high-end equipment, like the Gryphon Antileon class-A power amp and the Gryphon Sonata class-A, zero-feedback, 4MHz bandwidth, 4-chassis preamp. In my humble opinion, it is the most musical and accurate SS equipment out there, and it deserves to be looked at! It goes particularly well with Rockport and Avalon speakers. (I know there are no Stateside dealers, but give it a go). I can tell you that this equipment is extremely popular in Asiawhere you happen to have a lot of readers.
Please excuse me if you have already reviewed these products. I don't have my buyer's guide handy. Vienna Acoustics Haydn, Dynaudio Audience 50, Meadowlark Audio Kestrel (hot rod), Myryad MI-120 integrated amplifier, Myryad MA-240 amplifier. You guys do a great job of keeping up with almost every product I am interested in demoing and, eventually, purchasing (usually priced at less than $2000/component)!
I would like to see a review of the big brother to the Mark Levinson No.33H, the giant No.33 Reference Monoaural Power Amplifiers. Also, how about a review of the Avalon Acoustics Eidelon or the new Spectral DMA360 Mono Power Amps.
DTV abroad -is it possible to have an universal standard?-. How many time do we have to wait here in Latin America? Does it have to be with local policies?, can we get it trough satellite or any other mean? I would like to have all this questions solved, tks
More on cables, comparisons of various types. Hardly ever see any on the differences in interconnectsI KNOW they can make a huge difference. We always hear about speaker cables and their miraculous qualities; I find interconnects to make even greater differences, even at 1m. And what about some one-on-one in the recording business? Where can a greater difference be made than in the source?
Anything from Aragon, more CD recorders, new JBLs, Technics DVD-Audio Player, NAD separates, more audio racks, DVD players as transports, and how about a vintage/retro product re-review . . . maybe an old ReVox reel-to-reel or a McIntosh amplifier?
