As you point out, in the right application, tubes can be magic. I use SS for my speaker amplification because the speakers that I tend to like perform their best with a high damping factor, which SS more commonly provides. However, my headphone amp, a Woo Audio WA6 with Holland GZ34 rectifier tube, is a perfect application for a single-ended, class-A, tube power section. It sounds better than any of the SS headphone amps that I've been able to try.

From the very article dup linked to:

However - I do (or did until recently) use a valve preamp in my own system, and I have no idea what that says about me. It does sound nice, but I am probably deluding myself in thinking that it is better than my solid-state preamp. That's fine for me, because I designed and built it, so it didn't cost me a king's ransom.

Good God, dup, if you're going to challenge me to comprehend Elliot's articles and then denounce Elliot as simply prejudiced when he is correctly interpreted, don't use him as your reference again when he still contradicts what you mean to use as an insult to my system. You were called on the carpet once for directly attacking my system and now in your little pique of vanity after being proven wrong by your own linked article, you wish to continue your attack for no good reason other than you just can't take what you dish out. No one gives a shit what you think about tubes, dup, particularly when you use them in your own system!

Oh, and there's something I'd like you to do. It begins with "F" and ends with "f". You can reference AlexO for that one.

Tubes only in the low level signal area, pre, DAC, phase inverters, not in high powered connected to the speaker load. Which is a through back to 50's hi fi, as ESP pointed out is dopey. He uses tubes, but also thinks it dumb. for amplifers in hi fi. Read all of his info, he contridicts himself too, but thtat happens when you have open thoughts and logical discussions, not merely trying to be right. And there you go with being foul.....getting frustrated JV? Resorting AGAIN to name calling, how juvinile, childish, and on the day of the BUNNY. What's the matter, didn't you get your chocolate bunny today? Waaaaah

Tubes MAKE teh sound, poor for reproducing it, colored, that's why they use them in guitar amps to make the sound of distortion, not for hi fi reproduction. 50's style highly distorted and colored hi fi, is not reproduction. http://sound.westhost.com/cables-p5.htm#Valves%20(Tubes)

Are you saying that Hi-Fi Valve amplification is the same as Guitar variants?

Preacha' DUP -it's not the same thing! Like apples to...I dunno, apple pie! Tube guitar amps are MADE to be underpowered and get heated up for some righteous feedback and distortion. A good modern tube amp is not the same thing at all. Neither is a modern solid state the same as a 1950's transistor radio.
