Re: Well, this should be non-controversial: Cable experiment at

Already tried.

Jan, if you have a problem with how they work, prove it.

They make the sound better via treating the room's air. Tried and tested.

Unlike someone here, I am not afraid to detail the things I try.

Man up, Jan. Tell us about the Frogbelt tweaks you say don't improve the sound of your system.

Coward.

So stuck in pronouncing the wonderous things you hear, you can't talk about something you heard that didn't improve the sound of your system.

Vigne must be French for "poseur." No risk taking of your own, just toady up to May and peak from behind her skirt.

Maybe you should just start posting, "Whay May says! Nyah!" and save yourself the effort of pretending to have done things yourself.

Now you have been reduced to "I know you are but what am I" retorts?

Pitiful.

>>> "They work, to use a term that you might be able to relate to, by "calming down" the air - by altering the speaker/air/ear coupling. ." <<<

Yes, I can perfectly relate to the description "calming down", "relaxing" !!!!!!!! BUT - not the air - YOU, the human being !!!

This is very interesting. As I said earlier re DB tests, whatever the percentage results are, you are always left with more questions to answer, so let us look at the questions which are being raised here.

Questions are raised by the following :-

You had laser lights in your room at the CES 2008 show which you and others said gave an improvement to the sound. You say that the improvement in the sound was/is because the lights are "calming down" the air which reaches the human tympanic membranes.

You described the improvements as :-
>>> "Much better 'speed' and a more relaxed and natural presentation." <<<
You have also said :-
>>> "I am happy to dicscuss my own experiences, hence the existence of this thread.
I'm also happy to discuss which rooms I have tried with my 'light tweak.'
It doesn't work nearly as well with other lights on or rooms with high level of natural light as their source of illumination.
Rooms with ceiling vents for for forced air cooling or heating diminish its effect, as well.
Rooms with radiant heating seem to do best, then floor vented rooms after that.
I am pleased to talk about observations and describe "In which rooms doesn't it work."" <<<

Question One. If the lights are working by "calming down" the air which reaches the human tympanic membranes, why is the AIR any different with other lights on in the room or with a high level of natural light as their source of illumination ????????????? If the effect of the laser lights is not as good with other lights on or with high level of natural light, then, logically, that means that in the numerous other listening rooms with other lights on or with high level of natural light BUT with NO laser lights, then the sound will not be as good. Do the millions of people who listen in those conditions KNOW this ????????

Question Two. WHY aren't the laser lights effective in 'calming down' the air which reaches the human tympanic membrane in rooms with other lights on or with high level of natural light ?????

Question Three. In the rooms with other lights on or with high level of natural light is the air so much more UN calm so that the laser lights are not powerful enough to make much of a beneficial contribution to 'calming' the air ? OR

Question Four. In the rooms with other lights on or with high level of natural light is the air SO much calmer that any effect the laser lights might have would not be so noticeable ??

Question Five. WHY would rooms with radiant heating seem to do best ?

You say that you have done trials with the laser lights in a vacuum and they do not work when in a vacuum. This is intriguing.

You have situation ONE.
You have set of laser lights in the best sounding position in the listening room. You listen to some music and the sound is good. You say the sound is good because the laser lights are "calming down" the air which reaches the human tympanic membranes.

Now to situation TWO.
You introduce a vacuum device into the listening room and place the set of laser lights in the vacuum device. You seal the vacuum device and suck out all the air to create the vacuum. But, in order to have the laser lights LIT, you have to have the AC power cable and the power plug coming out of the vacuum device to connect into the AC power socket !!!!!!!!!!

The only way I can visualise having the set of laser lights, with the AC power cord and power plug all inside the vacuum device AND LIT, would be for there to be an AC power socket incorporated into the body of the vacuum device.

Question Six. Is this the test you did ? The laser lights and AC power cord and power plug, all inside the vacuum device and LIT, in the listening room, so that when you now listened the sound was not as good as when the laser lights were actually positioned in the listening room ???????????

I repeat, yet again, so that no one is in any doubt. I am NOT challenging your observation Buddha, that the laser lights gave an improvement in the sound. I am challenging the explanation you have put forward.

May Belt.

Buddha - You might be on to something big.

If you have read my Definitive Explanation of How the Intelligent Chip Works at:

http://machinadynamica.com/machina64.htm

you know that two coherent light sources combine quantum mechanically to affect a change in the physical state of the CD. The Intelligent Chip produces the second coherent light source; the first coherent light source is the CD laser.

Thus, it's very possible the laser light show in the room at the show demonstrates the quantum theory put forth in my paper on the chip is on the right track. (The sticky wicket is coming up with how the laser light that's out in the room gets inside the player to be able to combine with the CD laser light and effect the change to the CD.)

SIDEBAR: Ultra Tweeters from the same company that brought us the Intelligent Chip operate quantum mechanically to "moderate" air molecules in the room in such a way that acoustic waves propagate through the air more efficiently... like a traffic cop in the city who provides a more orderly and efficient flow of traffic. Ultra Tweeters operate in the GHz range only, there is no acoustic output. I.e., they don't operate like super tweeters, they're strictly quantum mechanical.

I won't get into the Chinese Water Trick, using bowls of ice cold water on the floor out in front of the speakers to moderate the air so acoustic waves propagate more efficiently through it to produce a higher quality sound. I'll save that one for another day.

Ok. Ok. I've cracked. Just wasted a perfectly good evening getting to this point in the thread and I'm breaking my golden rule of never entering a flame war.

Jan, I implore you, on behalf of the silent majority of lily-livered observers, to give us just one tweak that didn't improve the sound of your system.
Come on put us out of our misery and let us get back to the listening!

Just one other favor...could everyone reduce the number of quotes in your responses as it's hard enough to read through the first time.

Fair enough, it's a pain in the arse reading most of this juvenile vitriol the first time, let along having it quoted over and over.

Amongst the weird wonderful and sometimes sensible tweaks that have been discussed here, and on other forums there's one that hardly ever cracks a mention, the listening chair. If you think that doesn't matter think again. Not only does being comfortable and seated at the correct hight matter but, in my case, having a velvet covered bolster behind my head makes all the difference to everything from Pink Floyd to Richard Strauss. It's also a wonder that commerce hasn't grasped the importance of the listening chair and produced and marketed a dedicated example. I don't think I ever spotted one being advertised in all the years I used to read audioporn magazines. Possibly all the dictatorial domestic 'she who must be obeyed' monsters keep audiophiles seated uncomfortably for all their listening hours hence the desperate urge to dump their frustrations on news groups and forums. Just a wild guess.

Are you asking me to stop with what you refer to as "the 'cryogenic' bullshit" ONLY with regard to your laser lights and sound - or are you asking me to stop with what you refer to as "the 'cryogenic' bullshit" with regard to EVERYTHING to do with sound ?????????

Does it mean that you are joining Ethan in adding the cryogenic freezing technique to YOUR "bullshit" list ???

Let's call cryogenic freezing CF for economy's sake.

I have not found CFrozen BS (CFBS) to enhance the listening experience although I haven't DBT'd it.

I have found ,through extensive experimentation, that UnFrozen BS (UFBS) does have a deleterious effect on the listening experience and is a real party pooper.

I have a suspicion that if one were to CF this thread it might improve the reading experience as well as everyone's disposition on this forum
