Video: My Brightest Diamond’s “Be Brave”

Shara Worden, My Brightest Diamond’s enchanting vocalist, explains: “In November, the great composer Gorecki died and I remember that weekend clearly, listening to the work and reading the lyrics in his beautiful Symphony No.3, the lament of a mother who has lost her son in war. This was the context in which I started writing ‘Be Brave.’”

“Be Brave” is the first single from My Brightest Diamond’s upcoming album, All Things Will Unwind, Worden’s response “to a world unwinding.” With the video, we gain a look into the recording process, but also a look into Worden’s heart and mind.

“Be Brave” features the New York City chamber ensemble yMusic; DM Stith provides backing vocals; Jessica Dessner dances in the video; Pat Dillett, producer and engineer for David Byrne, Laurie Anderson, They Might be Giants, Mary J. Blige, The National, and many others, engineered and mixed the song in New York City. This is the first in a series of videos to come from director and longtime MBD collaborator, Murat Eyuboglu, documenting the process of creating All Things Will Unwind. More videos will be available on the Asthmatic Kitty and My Brightest Diamond websites in the weeks to come.

In addition, Prefuse 73, who recently worked with Worden on the track “The Only Hand to Hold,” found on the excellent album, The Only She Chapters, has provided a remix to “Be Brave.”
