Those are darn good choices. The NAD sounds great and the Wharfedales are awesome speakers for the money. At the moment, you probably can find the 10.1s on clearance. Given your restrictions, I can't think of a superior recommendation.
First off, thank you Bierfeldt for the validation. This setup will be purchased today. Mid-year gift to myself...
What about cables? My gut, and non-audiophile-grade ears/brain, tells me I'll be perfectly happy using my existing spool of 16 AWG wire, and some quality banana plugs. Nevertheless, I figured I'd ask. I know this topic can be bring out the very best/worst in a forum such as this, but I'm simply curious. And no, I have no interest in any cable that surpasses my mortgage in cost. =-)
Have a good weekend, all.
There are real reasons to look at premium RCA cables. When connecting something analog, a good cable makes a difference. I feel less strongly about digital cables and expensive XLR cables are an absolute waste.
Speaker cable to me is the most controversial. Especially on wire runs under 25 feet, there is not a lot of evidence advanced shielding makes any difference. I personally use 16 gauge monster cable because it was on sale at radio shack and got the matching monster banana clips. It was cheaper than the Radio Shack wire.
When I first started perusing these forums trying to set up my own system, I kept seeing Blue Jeans Cable recommended for those of us who have a bad price-gag reflex. I went with a spool of their 12 AWG Belden 5000UE. Something like 52 cents/foot.
If it isn't too late, I would strongly suggest the Wharfedale 10.2 over the 10.1. It has a 6.5" woofer vs. a 5.25"....and can therefore go down to that critical 40 Hz when placed properly in a room.
It is only $79 more than the 10.1 on musicdirect.
Respectfully,
Ron
I'm still using cable off a roll I got at Radio Shack in the 1980s.
