Then you missed Obama's concession for more nuclear energy and off shore oil.

I watched for 40 minutes but there were too many lies, too much blame shifting and too few specifics for me to soldier on...also boring as hell. I shifted to better fiction, 'Leverage' on USA

I don't know how you can call it boring, other than a need to be a contrarian. There was more good-natured banter and kibitzing flying back and forth between the Rep's and Dem's than in any othe SOU adress I can remember. Obama even got some smiles out of the dour 'publicans.

Watching Bush's face dart around clumsily for mis-placed emphasis and listening to him spit out his fractured syntax- like the words were poison and he didn't know what to do with them- was painful. But I guess way more entertaining.

I haven't watched one of those things since Reagan. I don't see how anyone can do it. Say a sentence...clap,clap,clap...say another sentence...clap,clap,clap...

I watched it with a staunch Republican buddy.

We both felt it was short on meat, and Obama missed a great opportunity to tell people more precisely why health care reform should be considered. He had a good opportunity to pare down the chaff and toss out five or so 'wheat' points that could generate bipartisan support - like excluding pre-existing condition coverage when gaining insurance through an employer, tort reform, catastrophic expense protection that can cripple normal responsible family budgets, lifetime limits...

He could have been harder hitting with stimulus data and trying to pare it down as able - showing us that after the initial move to stave off disaster, we can scale back in some places.

The stimulus seems to have passed by most voters - I feel like it was a toss to mostly the wrong people - I don't think he gave enough thought to how America is really feeling.

Glad he opened the door to alternate energy sources, but he could have said more and specifically promised to speed development in acknowledged ways. Even if it doesn't make for cheaper fuel, it could make for more energy independence and cost certainty.

I gave him a "D," and my Republican friend gave him a "C".

So, it also comfirmed a suspicion of mine: I guess there are people can't pay attention to something without boobies in it for a whole hour... Pretty much sums alot of Americans up, right there!

Back in the 50's, 60's & 70's we had to watch out for tar on the beach. They drilled right in the sand across Pacific Coast Highway between Long Beach and Huntington Beach at Seal Beach and Bolsa Chica (aka Tin Can Beach). We didn't care. Life was good. You'd park on the side of the sandy highway, pick out a fire ring and set up for the day.

Now it's a big metered parking lot teeming with urban sprawl.

I actually watched most of it. I enjoyed watching Biden in the background. I love that guy!

Anyway, I would give him a C+ because he can actually give a coherent speech. My bias is 22 years as a registered Democrat, about 7 years registered Republican, and about 1.5 years as a registered Independent. I'm floating somewhere between conservative Democrat and moderate Republican platforms. I would have gave him a B- but he started in with a sales manager's approach when separately chastising both the Democrats and Republicans. That shit might work with his staff but if he wants to be a sales manager for Congress than he needs to look no further than Alec Baldwin (I love that guy!) in Glengarry Glen Ross.

"First prize is a new Cadillac. Second prize is a set of steak knives. Third prize is....you're fired." A president has at least four years to get his shit on one sock. Going around sucking dick everyday doesn't work. Ask any whore.

Personally, I feel he was advised the time was right to be a successful progressive president. It didn't work and his fault. The rest of his presidency should be as an effective president. But he can't go around stating shit like, "the buck stop with me" and then turn around and make excuses by using the past as a scapegoat. Obama can't pick and choose what is his responsibility and ownership. He volunteered for the position. It is his problem. All the crying about what other people did in the past is a sign of weakness and lack of control; i.e. leadership. Poor managers do this when they take position. Blame everything on the past manager and you will have at least one alliance in the office. But what about the rest? He just created shit soup for himself.

Good points. And he's got to come up with some better insight for failure than "I didn't explain it good enough to the American people."

I support him but I want him to man up.
