these are merely the ones that I consider to be the best(sound, performance, musical significance). my gold standards. I have thousands more.

A sincere thank you for your list!

On matters of overlap....the Eric Bibb Opus 3 that was his first recording with them that uses "Needed Time" as the opening cut is superlative, as well.

Thanks for the list! Can I suggest you check out Edgar Meyer's Sony CD of three Bach cello suites played on the double bass? Great sound, and the transcription adds something new to these pieces.

Some of those choices & own and enjoy. However, something that's always fascinated me ( brace for a chunk of Hi-Fi heresy) is that great performances, such as the Kathleen Ferrier/Bruno Walter recording of Mahler's "Das Leid von der Erde" (LXTA 5576) although far from a technically perfect recording, grabs me like no other, no matter how perfectly recorded.

Yes, there are several recordings that suck in terms of fidelity but are amazing in every other way(Like Titta Ruffo, Caruso, Gobbi, Cesare Siepi). I could list those but I was trying to list recordings that have a good balance.
