One of these days, someone will mention how that table sounds!
The featured guest will be Bill Voss, US Business Development Manager for Technics who Bwill be demonstrating and discussing Technics' latest introductions for 2016 including the return of the iconic SL-1200GAE turntable, the new SU-G30 integrated amplifier/DAC/phono/network player, the SB-C700 linear-phase point-sound-source loudspeakers, the new EAH-T700 headphones, and the Ottava all-in-one Music System.
One of these days, someone will mention how that table sounds!
Yes, this is probably the third Technics event that is being advertised here. Isn't it about time that the promo information here is replaced with something more substantial....like initial feedback from one of the reviewers or, heaven forbid, an actual review?
I did hear it at the first of the three events. The sound was consistently clean and balanced. OTOH, I heard it in an unfamiliar room with unfamiliar amps and speakers with an unfamiliar cartridge. Do you think that I (or anyone) can make any credible comment about the turntable itself?
Thank you for saying something about the sound. The fact that you thought the room sounded OK is a good indicator right there.
By the way, there's absolutely plenty that you can say based on such limited exposure. You could mention noticeable rumble, notable wow or flutter, tracking or mistracking. There's a lot about a turntable one can pick up in a quick listen during a demonstration.

Are you kidding? In a room filled with people milling around?
According to you, it sounded "consistently clean and balanced."
So, you could hear those characteristics over the din of people milling about, but those other things I mentioned go beyond the pale?
Dang, sometimes you guys make it feel like we are trying to get answers from politicians! ;-p
Rick Scott could take lessons.
I think I said that it was clean as well, nice imaging but difficult to say more given the noise level from people walking and talking which prevented from judging any further. I want one.
Hi Kal
I take your point, but given that these is is third Technics advertisement here with almost no input from Stereophile writers, and given that Technics has been very shy about providing any numerical technical information about the new 1200 (torque, speed stability, etc) ....maybe its time to ask them to provide it rather than those ongoing announcement about "Technics events"?
Just to clarify, I have great interest in the 1200GAE, but feel it is about time to learn more than these vague ads
Thanks for the condescension.
No way modern technology would allow for after the fact reportage!
You often report about upcoming shows and then follow up regarding the sound, so your dismissal of the question doesn't "sound right."
He was sitting a few feet away from me and heard what I heard. To say any more with people coming and going wouldn't be possible. I think this quick observation is no different from what gets reported at noisy audio shows.
Thanks for your reply. I agree with your policy - this is indeed a much needed shot of publicity to Audiophilia.
I did not intend to criticize the Journal, rather comment on the number of advertised PR events that Technics is holding as opposed to the actual technical information released so far on the 1200's performance (distinct from build!). My apologies for not making my aim clear in my original post.
And again, I am very excited about this TT, and look forward to listening to it in person
Yup. I could only hear in brief intervals over the crowd. Besides, as a post-vinyl audiophile, I am not attuned to those other details.
Hey, I only commented at all in response to the request. In general, I do not believe in critiquing such demos. Too many variables and unknowns as well as a lack of interest.
Like asking Eric Levine to handle reviewing a new White Stripes album compilation.
Horses for courses, for sure!
Welcome to the age of the 'specialized audiophile.'
I attended out of personal interest and decided to comment because I enjoyed the event. AFAIK, no one was asked to "handle reviewing" the event. My comments about the TT were in direct response to your request.
(And who is Eric Levine?)
Siri changed Robert into Eric!
Anyway, I am grateful for your impression!
