No. The reverse happened once when I was playing last minute keyboad stand-in for a muso friends recording session.
The nong mixing the disk ( mangling more like it- I'm sure he was totally deaf above the middle octave) spotted my copy of Absolute Sound ( sorry, in the days when I spent money on audio porn I read all the US & English mags) and blurted , " Huh, another hi-fi wanker". He went on to make some remarks about contact enhancer solutions that are far too obscene to publish here. Needless to say I told him what I thought of his crappy Yamaha desk monitors that were being run with wet toilet paper over the tweeters. Well, now that I think about it he can't have been all that deaf if he knew how horrible those things sounded without some form of treble muffling.

For years every time I go on a plane trip I take along a copy and in I've never had a single comment.

At the opposite end of the spectrum, I once had a guy lean over from the next seat at an airport terminal, look at my Stereophile, and say, "That's all bullshit."

I said, "Dude, you're reading Vanity Fair."

He said, "It's my wife's!"

So, I said, "Same here."

Then we chatted about Hi Fi.

Looking back, he seems familiar. Greying hair, a little thin on top; glasses. Travelling with a cello case.

Not in my experience, as with Stereophile mags.

Sometime I bring up the subject of audio, and most of the time, the other person says his hearing is not so good as to make it worthwhile to bother with extremely good sound - he would not hear the difference. I just leave it at that.

There was only one woman that I met in all my years as an audiophile who also was an audiophile. She was interested in spending her money on audio gear! Didn't keep in touch with her and don't know where she is now.

A couple of relatives asked me about the audio hobby. As I told my tales, they listened with interest, and the said thanks. Next subject.

Audiophilia seems to be an ice-maker.

Same here. Even Dup. After all it's a forum, it's not 'real' folks! I'd even likely learn something I didn't know from Dup. (I Will sit and listen -it's the only way to learn something) Happens all the time. As Alex said, he's different in person.

I was working as LAN administrator about 10 years ago. A recently hired person saw Stereophile on my desk and we've been friends ever since. Coincidentally, he grew up in the same town as me on Long Island, though he's nearly 10 years younger.
Aside from that one time, no one has so much as glanced at the mag in 25 years. Except for one woman in the same workplace that used to jokingly refer to it as 'Pedophile' magazine.

Well then, you should introduce yourself to this charming lady, she's more than just an audiophile, she's head of her own high-end company and very fun to be with ( apart from her questionable musical taste but hey, I'm a snob when it comes to music.)

Coincidentally, I put a few recent copies in the break room. So far all I've gotten was if you can afford this shit what the hell are you doing working here? I tell them its a long story. Don't get me started.
