The answer is always 'it depends.' Wall mounting puts the speaker against a wall and will affect the bass quite differently from a stand mounting. A few speakers are designed for wall mounting but most are not. Using one of a stereo pair on the wall and one on a stand will certainly result in a mismatch.

One of each is out of the question. Go for stands. If the speaker involved likes to be close to the wall (most do not), that can be accomodated but if it produces better performance (linearity and sound staging) by moving out into the room, that too can be accomplished.
