Squeezebox Touch - USB mod: why of interest?

I read in the review that Mr. Rubinson tried the Touch with a firmware mod that changed the USB input to an output, which he fed into another device.

Why is this any more interesting that any other digital output? The Touch has RCA and optical already.

How can USB be used in ways that the other digital outputs cannot?

I did it only in order to utilize the USB-only DAC in the Ayre player. It clearly demonstrated the fundamental excellence of the SqueezeBox system.

Many have USB dacs they were using with their computers and want to utilize them with the Touch.

Understood. I apparently missed that the Ayre only has USB in.

It is indeed neat that the Touch can be reconfigured to be used in so many ways.

Thank you.
