Those Dynaudio's are great but aren't the easiest speaker to drive. What kind of amp are you going to use? I am not familiar with the Nola
I did note that the Dynaudio has a 4 ohm impedance. But the Rogue is a 100 watt amp, and I don't think the match will be a problem.
The Rogue Sphinx would do a fine job. Rated down to 2 ohms no problem. I like the Dynaudio's. Neutral and very revealing. They are a surprisingly uncolored speaker. If you are looking for faithful reproduction of a recording, they are a very nice choice.
Thanks for your input. It would be nice if I could audition these guys side by side, but it's not possible.
I guess I am going make a decision that is partly based upon return policy. I'll pick one, keep it if it's acceptable, return it if I don't like it and move on to the next.
Not the ideal way of being a consumer, but what can one do?
Hearing it in your home is 10,000x better than hearing it in a showroom. You will never really know till you get it in your home. IMO, this is the ideal way to shop. Once your get it in your room, you really need to spend the time setting up and this can mean hours of small tweaks in distance from the walls, toeing angle and rake angle to optimize soundstage. It take me most of a weekend taking notes listening to the same tracks over and over again to get things just right.
If you are interested, the Monitor Audio Gold line and Revel Performa3 line also compete very directly with Dynaudio excites though neither offers the sort of uncolored sound you would get from the Dynaudio's. Might be worth a look.
Ordered them today, and I will probably get them this weekend.
Nolas are backordered and not available for a while anyway.
I expect the Dynaudios will be enough of an improvement compared to my current speakers that I'll end up holding onto them.
Thanks for your input.
The new boxes spent the weekend being broken in by nearly continuous playing. I think they sound great. Detailed from low to high, with a great bass end for small speakers. I am uncertain why they haven't received much press in the audio world.
I am quickly being spoiled, so I have decided to sell off the Dalis they replaced and my KEFs and get another pair of Dynaudios - either the Excite x14s or perhaps Emit 10s to use in my office stereo.
Glad to hear you like the Dynaudios. Those Excite's are great speakers and paired with that Rogue, your sound has to be extraordinary. Those Excite x14s are hard to drive too...make sure you haveat least 65w or 70w to drive them. Even at modest volumes, amps with less power than that will sound a bit thin.
