Atoms at 89dB/1w/1m are at the lower edge but should be passible with your stated listening requirements. I don't know if the Audio-Technica AT-LP120-USB is capable of "making vinyl sound good."

I suggest the Klipsch Synergy B-20 speakers, which have a sensitivity that is well above average at 93 db per watt.Those should work well. Amazon is selling them for around $280 per pair.
