Has anyone had any experience with the iQ5 at all?
I heard the iQ9 not so long ago during a brief demo at one retailer. To me the treble was quite harsh, but they sounded extremely clear and had lots of punch. The treble turned me off. But you must understand, I only heard it for perhaps five minutes. Maybe the recording was too bright, maybe the room was not ideal, etc. And the iQ9 isn't the iQ5. For what it's worth however, I've read some other opinions on the Internet and they came away with the same impressions of the iQ series.
Don't know anything about the Audioengine so I can't say how KEF may compare. Are you able to listen to the iQ5s first? Really the treble is the only concern I'd have, and it can probably be tamed to some degree.
Ok thanks. Yes I've come across comments saying that they're a little bright.
Hi
Ive used the Q5's for a long time and they are great speakers, they are extremely well regarded in the UK industry. They will blow away your Audioengine models.
Alan
Thanks for the input. I think the Q5 is similar to the iQ7 in that both use 6.5" drivers. The iQ5 employs 5" drivers and is a smaller speaker. Anyway, I have decided to take the plunge (I had declared, not too long ago at this very forum, that I will not be upgrading for a while. Should have known better!), and am now looking for a very basic amp to get started with.
I'm looking at the Sherwood RX-4105, the Pioneer Elite A-35R, Sonic Impact gen 2 T-amp or one of the remanufactured Harman Kardon units. Which among these (or any other ~$150 amp) be a good match with the iQ5?
