The High End Show seems to have been revived and is now moving to the Flaming O!

January 7-10, 2010.

Was it ever in doubt?

It was interesting last year. I just wish I had more time to listen there, but with a booth on the CES floor...

Was it ever in doubt?

With an announcement for a January show in the latter part of July, at a new venue, with registration yet to be made available, what would you think? Five months until the show and it's just now getting going on the actual location, I'd say it was reasonable to be concerned.

A booth at CES? I thought you weren't part of the "industry." Maybe you do need that disclaimer, man!

Come to T.H.E. and we'll try to knock your socks off with some vino.

Schedule depending, certainly.

And I hope it (the show) survives.

We don't make audiophile stuff. We are the "top end consumer" signal processing folks by charter.

Due to that aspect, I do feel you need to put your credentials and connections into your signature. Basically, your components, be it software or hardware design..ARE utilized in audiophile equipment and DO have an involvement in the business.

And you -do- grind that axe --quite often. Nuthin' personal. Just sayin'.

No, I don't "grind an ax" I simply relate the science as she is presently known.

For some people, facts are evil. We have several cases of that in evidence here.

JJ, go look up the factual basis of the idea surrounding 'facts'.

I do agree that as 'people' on this 'planet', with our so called wiring, we tend to need to start somewhere.

However, it seems to me that you might posses the capacity to understand that there are no facts of any kind. In all musings, to some degree or another-it can be critical to realize and work within such a point or constraint. more often that not, it tends to help the muse work more correctly and effectively.

Point being, that scientific dogma is a human trapping, that can posses (and deeply resemble) the same trappings as religious dogma.

Then you reject the idea that on this planet, standing on the surface, under ordinary conditions, the rock will always drop on my toe if I release it directly above the toe?

That's what you just implied.

We do not KNOW exactly, precisely, the laws, as it were, but they are laws. Our "laws" are imperfect understandings of same, but ones that, for instance, allow for certainty in dropping rocks on one's toe in ordinary circumstances.

Actually, science is not in any fashion whatsoever like religion.

Religion requires faith. Science requires no faith.

And that's all she wrote.

You miss the point entirely. It's purely mental a 'positional' issue. ie, where the thought arises from. How it came to be.

However, it seems as if your base understandings of the precepts of reality are sorely lacking. It is very likely that this, if true, will always limit you.

Note, not once have I ever on this board anywhere, at any time..strayed into the idea of 'religion' as it is related in western popular thinking.

Some philosophical underpinnings might do you a world of good. After all, it is the basis of all you like to call science. I have been attempting to appeal to your intelligence, not it's emetic origins, shaping, and colorization via the depth of the psyche. One must strive to understand that logic is a hindbrain regurgitant.

Ultimately, Religion and science both arise from the same mental core of the given individual. On that level, for the vast majority of people -when they reach for their internal limits of their capacities- the two are not really capable of being distinguished from one another.

Another way of seeing it, is that the person who is most firm in their sanity is the one to be most feared, as they are patently --insane. For no person is beyond being an island of their own internal creation.

The danger lies in the projection of that onto others for the purposes of self comfort in the core of the given being's 'human' aspects. The intensity of the projection becomes the advertisement (to others who might take note of it) of the animal's ultimate reign of the core --within.

Realizing that is key to taking the first step toward actual clarity.

Then you reject the idea of any reality external to your thoughts?

Really?

Straw men and ad-hominem attacks removed.

And the rock still hits your toe, unless you have a bad aim.

Your only hope for consistancy with experiment here is if you retreat to tautological solipcism.

It is also possible to say that a sign of the intensity of animal within, that hides at the base of the logical function of the given individual, can be seen or evidenced via the need to label. This can be noted to be very evident in the so-called 'linear mind'.

I'm not attempting to play slippery word games with you, JJ, it is more a case of attempting to have you consider the possibilities of danger for human development and evolution that lie in the so called 'rigors' of science.

Ok, let's start with the basics:

Is there an external reality to you (or me, or whatever)?

Does it have properties?

Can we examine those properties?

You are still missing the point. It is not that easy.

The door is hidden. It is deep inside -It is guarded by that same internal function.

Each journey is individual, and that's the way it's always been. You must feel the need to make the effort for yourself, otherwise it will never take place. You must also feel the need and actually execute the desire to risk all, sanity, life, existence- all of it. Until then, it will never become clear. Clarity is not easy. This is why so few achieve it. The price is high. If you actually want 'all', then you must pay 'all'. A standard deal that the universe offers - To each of us.

The rigors of science can take you there..but it must be done with an open mind. Only you will know if what I'm saying is capable of becoming something useful to you. This Maxwellian thing I spoke of is a major hint. Which is why I dump it in odd places - like so much ranted dross. Those who are given pause by it, those who sit up and actually say to themselves What the fuck?!?... are given the chance to take a shot at the ring. (we have a live one!)

My point is that the problem comes when those who promote solutions of and for all, live in an incomplete state of clarity and preach from that particular pulpit. Be it science, religion, or whatever.

As so eloquently stated in the film, "Life of Brian":

"Follow the Gourd!"

"NO!"

"Follow the Shoe!"

We don't make audiophile stuff. We are the "top end consumer" signal processing folks by charter.

If as you claim you have a booth at the C.E.S. show, I think that pretty much qualifies you as a professional in the audio industry. Notwithstanding the fact that you keep reminding us you have a professional assocation within the audio industry. As I understand it, those who have a professional association within the audio industry are asked to make this clear, by signing their name and association in their signature. I don't see how it makes a difference whether its the software or hardware side of the audio industry you are associated with. Same as with the computer industry, both software and hardware are associated with it. We discuss all aspects of audio here; both hardware -and- software (including signal processing). And you could have competitors here (in membership) either way, or a commercial agenda (that could prove to be a conflict of interest in certain discussions), or whatever other concerns may be, that require professionals in the audio industry to reveal their associations.

Even with that said, if you are who you say, then your homepage shows you to be an employee of Neural, which is now a DTS company. There is no question that they make audio hardware, here is one example of Neural/DTS processors:

http://www.neuralaudio.com/professionals/television_broadcast/products/neural_surround/multimerge/

Finally j_j, I still don't see why you have to be forced or convinced that it is inappropriate for you to continue to claim professional industry status here without signifying your name and professional industry association in your sig, as every other audio professional here has done willingly. If you're proud of your association with DTS, and you must be because you keep talking about it, you should be equally proud to include your professional association in your sig line. Please do so, as other professional members have asked, so we can put this controversy at least, to a close.

The point in Life of Brian was that gourd and the shoe were equally absurd and *arbitrary*; religion and science are not equals, as means to explain natural phenomena.

Apologists for religion will occasionally claim that religion explains the 'why', leaving the 'how' to science; but science converges on the same answers to 'how' no matter where it's done, while the various religions pose various, and often conflicting, answer to 'why': gourd or shoe?

The real question is: when you edit out the gasbaggery in these posts of yours, what's left, Mr. Hotte? Perhaps you should examine the internal contradictions in them before claiming a 'clarity' that vaults you beyond the common scientific ruck. Like, claiming that logic is merely brainstem vomit to be treated with suspicion, while constantly employing reasoning to make your case.

I think if you look at religion a little more, you will see alot of convergence there, too.

The Golden Rule seems pretty universal - my take on the variability between religions is how they differ on when it's OK to break that rule.

You know..."Golden Rule, unless someone is an idolator," or "Golden Rule, unless someone draws a picture of The Prophet," or "Golden Rule, unless someone is Babylonian," etc...

After the Golden Rule, it then becomes pretty much an exercise in "except..."

There is much convergence around the infinitely wise, insightful, and forgiving God. It's the divergence from there where things go terribly wrong.

The Gourd or the Shoe are, in fact, arbitrary, but both have much overlap - as do almost all religions, so where does all the similarity come from?

The various religions pose many similar, and often identical, answers to 'why.'

For fun, go compare how all the religions you can think of look at incest, murder, stealing, the infinite Universe, etc.

Looks like we'll be making limoncello again this September!
I just hope that the Flamingo Hotel does not have the same restrictions on the rooms as does the Venetian Hotel does for the CES exhibitors.

The point is I sometimes set myself up for these attacks, and I do it willingly. For sometimes... the observant do get something from it. Other than that, there isn't much to say. Except that there is nearly no doubt that I'll do it again.

Dude, I gotta say, I think it's finally the year to go one toke over the line and add the last dimension....

Stripper hostesses.

It's the logical conclusion.

I'm trying to imagine a room with DeVore Gibbon 3XL's on those gorgeous baboo stands playing tunes for people well served with vino rojo and limoncello being charmed by the ultimate tweak - examples of the ultimate in female pulchritude. With golden hearts, of course. Our goal would be to have one lucky visitor enter into wedded bliss with one of our insightful and deep thinking hostesses.

Then I could die happy.

Game on!

The karmic alignment would sing.

We'd have to call Kara or Halpern for an assist, I think. We could also try to make it Lavorgna land and build our first system by proxy supervision.

I gots ideas!

It's time to 'become!'

This sounds like the Monkeyhaus.

Edit: (FYI): I am kidding. Except for underneath their clothes (which are always very nice clothes), there have never been naked people at the Monkeyhaus (AFAIK).

While I don't recall ever seeing strippers at Monkeyhaus (though it's certainly possible I missed it), I do remember at least one instance of a guest leaving in fewer articles of clothing than they arrived in.

Always, ALWAYS the best room in Las Vegas at showtime, NFS Audio has again upped the pre-show hype bar. I cannot compete, I throw in the towel immediately, lest even the contemplation of competition wipe out all our corporate resources.

On an aside, Mike, that dangerous, no, evil Limoncello of yours was served at at least one Monkeyhaus, resulting in a guest wandering around the Brooklyn Navy Yard for a few hours at 1am, "enjoying the fresh air."

Cheers!

It IS possible, however, to develop a major case of beer goggles at the Monkeyhaus so that when venturing outside, all women might look hot to you after a night of stupid good music & beverage-consumption.

Ahem....mmmhmmm....

There was another convention at Alexis Park last year?

I am aware of some overlap in the city, however, but I don't think they have ever been successfully merged.

We had a golden opportunity a few years ago...

A lady at work had a roommmate who was a up and coming young professional woman who asked us if we'd be interested in having her provide comfort for attendees; and she'd bring her friends.

I thought it would have been the funniest Hi Fi show exhibit ever: Free hooch and costly womens, but SOMEONE asked his wife what she thought about the idea and we ended up not doing it.

Maybe trying to be a deputized branch of a local 'gentlemen's club' would be the ticket. They could rotate in hostesseses and we could allow their angels to tell people where they could see more of the same?

If anyone has any good ideas about how to structure this sort of party favor, let us know!

We are also open to idea of scantily clad males, as well. We want to be inclusive.

Heck, furries, too! The Furries could be placed around the room and in corners to enhance the sound.
