Bring music seems to be the right admonition. Just read in TAS about the folderal involving music sales at the show and the fact that Acoustic Sounds and Music Direct - normally great sources of recordings - will be bringing equipment only.

As an added incentive/disincentive...

I have a bottle of "absinthe concentrate" that is supposed to have enough thujon for 14 1/2 bottles of high grade "regular" absinthe.

I got these from the Czech Republic by way of Germany.

I'm thinking I'll use it to make 1.5 liters of 195 proof "Everabsinthe" (200 proof Everclear plus the condensed bottles.)

We're also making some "system treatment" solution that's at 200 proof right now, but we're gonna have to cut it.

My thoughts are.....well......I gotta quote from a Rocky movie to really express my goal for CES:

Interviewer: What's your prediction for the fight?

Clubber Lang: My prediction?

Interviewer: Yes, your prediction.

[Clubber looks into camera]

Clubber Lang: Pain!

So, we'd love to try and do you harm if you stop by!

That's not aural pain I'm talking, I mean real, visceral, physical/existential...mind pain.

TTFN!

Cheapskate, I saw that article in TAS as well...what happened to free trade? No more thrill of the hunt for those who want to purchase demo equiptment. Of course, since we have "nothing for sale", we can still provide high level entertainment at 'bargain basement' prices...free. Hope to see alot of you there. Does anyone have a Breathalyzer we can borrow?

Shame to credit another magazine with this news. Stereophile covered it in depth more than 2 months ago; see www.stereophile.com/news/100206ces .

Banished from the Beneficence of Buddha. Dumped into the Dumpster with the DUPster. Sob. All for not "getting with the program."

So you did mean "wandering through." Yes, if there was a Winer-treated room at HE, I wandered unknowingly through it. My "elite ears" must not have been impressed. You closed your eyes and were impressed. Perhaps your ears are more elite than mine. As I have said many times -- elite, mediocre, or terrible -- they are the only ones I have. And I am forced by genetic destiny to take them everywhere I go.

Of course, the Winer challenge to "be a man" and submit to ten-minute DBT evaluations of components is the epitome of manly maturity.

I think I understand the program, now, after straying from the path of enlightenment. I am deluded and elite because I heard a system improvement from a new digital cable, based on my only criterion for improvement -- i.e., it got me closer to my memory of the live experience. Winer is "with the program," because his cloth-covered frames are better than only a dozen or so other makers of cloth-covered frames. My dialectric-covered wire needs DBT verification, his cloth-covered frames do not.

In a recent fit of delusion, I picked up a used pair of Triangle Magellans. Believing my "elite" ears could never discern significant improvements in the new models, I was able to save about 40 large by settling for the now outdated ones. Maybe I'll spend THAT on a Zanden DAC, if it sounds better than it measures.

Move over, DUP -- we'll certainly make strange dumpster mates, but, what the hell, if that's our lot, that's our lot. I'll be in the one in the parking lot behind the St. Tropez. I'll save you a swig or two of Ripple, and I hear the restaurant leavings are actually quite tasty.

Why play dumb? It's obvious this was a reply to things addressed in the now locked thread.

Oh, Clifton.

I have never questioned what you claim to hear or not hear, I questioned the relative value of acting as the forum grammarian and criticizing Reverend Chu based not on what your ears told you, but whether or not you could find a typo in a post on an internet forum.

How you hear interconnects is not in question. In fact, I think you listen in the perfect fashion - if it sounds good to you, keep it, if not, don't keep it.

This thing about "elite ears," though...well, I give you the title of "Most Elite ears." I can't unknowingly wander through demos and leave with a fully formed opinion without ever stopping to see what it was I was listening to. For your skill in this regard, I defer that "elite" title to you. Are you good enough to do it without even going into the room?

If, at a show, you find things by unknowingly wandering through rooms, your ears are much more elite than mine. I actually have to take time and sit down and listen.

I think you may be so good, that when you say, "I'll be in the one in the parking lot behind the St. Tropez," that you are implying that's as close as you need to get to have definitive opinions on all the demos!

I do think you've gotten stuck in an Ethan Paradox, though.

Like those books at Borders that proclaim the "The Miracle of Vitamin C", or "The Only Vitamin You'll Ever Need...E!" or "The Co-Q-10 Revolution"...every one of those books makes claims as though they represent the only answer.

Ethan, unfortunately, does the same thing.

Comb filtering is real, for sure, and room treatments that reduce it seem to make a difference to many people's ears.

That part is fine.

But, when he goes from offering a solution to "a" problem to claiming a solution for "all" problems, he is obviously wrong.

I can see how you get your dander up, but by then claiming that his treatments can offer "no" benefit, you make the same error he does, only at the other end of the spectrum.

I never said your special digital cables didn't sound good to you, I was upset at you for stopping short of talking about other possibilities - just as DUP is want to do.

Then, when I get on you about being a grammar nazi (small "n" intentional) and you start beating your chest and saying how our argument was about my ears or yours - nope...it was about leaving the discussion and sniping over spelling and syntax as a path to some sort of sonic superiority.

So, if your elite ears are busy at the next show "unknowingly wandering" past demos, we may not run into each other much. I'll be busy inside the rooms.

I do admire the way you change the subject, though. Nice work, taking that discussion from your grammar corrections and snide remarks and turning it into how I claimed you couldn't hear your digital cable doing what it does.

You sound like a true veteran of the matrimonial wars.

Wouldn't miss it for the world. I wish I were gonna be just down the hall again but I'll be on the shuttle from the Venetian as often as possible.

Mea culpa, JA. As Minnie once said, "Don't take it too hard." I skip over many of JVS's contributions, and I also believe, as you might, that what Robert Harley has to say concerning audio is usually worth reading even though he's long gone from the Stereophile fold.

It's about time it was locked; it should have been given a fatal overdose of something a long time ago....

Good grief, Buddha! The last time I had any experience with concoctions including everclear (let alone some absinthe derivative), my hair was brown and I still had some acne scars. It wasn't fatal, but it taught me one thing to avoid in the future. You can really ruin your shoes (and some other stuff too) with that sort of potion. Remember that God makes wine and he meant for us to drink that.

I'm wondering if we should go really retro and get vinyl furniture...certainly would help with any clean-up!
