The Paradigm Studio 60 loudspeakers sound much better than the Aperions and cost about the same. Listen to them before you buy.
I'd even get the Vandersteen 1C ($1100/pair w/ stands) before the Aperions.
You can probably get a pair of Vandersteen 2Ce Signatures or Signature IIs on AudiogoN for that price. It would be hard to beat a pair of used, well taken care of Vandersteen 2Ce Signatures or Signature IIs.
I agree with Jackfish. Another thing to look into is perhaps a Rega Mira integrated instead of the receiver
I'd also look into a Jolida JD 1501A 100 wpc hybrid integrated amplifier for $675. The preamp section has 12AX7 input tubes driving a MOSFET solid state power amp section. I believe the sound and power for the buck are outstanding!
You could also get into Paradigm Studio 100s if you buy used on AudiogoN.
Another thing I should mention is that for $100 more you will get a significant improvement in sound when going with a Cambridge Audio Azur 540C v2 over the 340C.
Thanks Jackfish for the advice. My concern is that I really need to stay in budget for my system. I would really like to to do all of this for $2000 give or take a little. From looking at the most recent Stereophile recommended components, that is how I owned in on the Outlaw and the Aperion 5 or 6s.
Oy, this is all going to be hard!!!!
Great advice from these guys, especially in regards to the Vandersteen 1C..I've heard them and they're great.
If you have the space, and an amp with enough power to drive them, you may want to consider the Magnepan MMG. Wonderful sound for only $600 (pair) and you can add a good sub and get both for about a $1k.
As for a cdp go to www.underwoodhifi.com and check out the specials...you can get a Music Hall 25.2 cdp for about $450. A great buy.
Years ago I was auditioning speakers in the under $1000 category. I had just about decided on the Vandersteen 1C's. Then the dealer asked if I wanted to hear the Vandersteen 2ci. Doggone, that was sweet and I exceeded my budget. Glad I did.
(Good luck, I think you're going to have a good sounding system using any of the proposed components)
