Sad

Not a word of congratulations from dup to the owner of the McIntosh tube amp when apiccar solved his problem with good basic thinking. dup only repeated and repeated the same tired old words and tried once again to prove he's better than another forum member. And so it begins once again. That's sad.

You can send this to the Dead Zone now, Stephen.

Jan, I say this in the friendliest possible tone, but I think maybe you ought to let go. DUP is not going to stop getting under your skin unless you thicken it. Airing grievances is only going to stir the pot. If it's cathartic for you, then I suppose I understand.

Honestly, most of us are annoyed by Carl's behavior often. Very rarely, however, does he truly offend. There's no loss of respect in laying down your sword. Just continue offering advice and experience as you always have, and don't let the errant noise bother you.

All the best,

I'm teh ONE who told him to swap teh tubes, you had him taking it into a aservice center, some otehr dude had him checking power supplies, anotehr bias resistors, how short a memory, the unknowing seem to use to their advantage, I SAID swap tubes, you said can't troubleshoot over this forum, you have selective amensia, like a politician.

Ergonaut had DC Pumping problems, scope teh power supply, holy moly!! Jan says not to just change tubes, it needs a "service center"..I say swap tubes and everyone says not on a Mc, oh no, they are spcial bias blah blah blah, are you people high? I said change teh tubes, looks like SIMPLE is teh basic troubleshooting tennent, like I said before. Experience always beats nonsense.

Re: Sad

Well, technichally, DUP said this:

"Replace the tubes. www.partsexpress.com may have what you need for less than some other places."

Apiccar did not do as DUP told him, opting to swap a couple tubes that were shared between the peramp and the amp.

If Apiccar had done as DUP told him, he would now be out the cost of 8 KT88's, plus the other tubes he bought.

It's actually lucky for Apiccar that he ignored DUP's advice to "replace the tubes."

I would say that Apiccar succeeded DESPITE our help.

Re: Sad

He REPLACED the tubes, didn't he, thus he found that the TUBES where the problem...Engrish is not spoken here is it? I just changed a tube today actually, $30,000 tube, in a system when tubes go bad ya replace em. These tubes run at 60kV 150mA. You talk about tubes being expensive, $12 tubes? you gotta be kidding right? As long as you got teh covers off change em all, and forget about it for a few years, unless your TIME is not worth anything. If one tube failed, and they are all old, guess what, in 2 months you are again changing tubes. I think most here don't have a clue about service or keeping equipm, ent online. Esssh. Production calls for up time, like a live event that needs it's equipment to do a show. How bout that guy who had DC pumping, teh other with soem bias resistor problem. Hmmm, me thinks many here don't have much experience in troublshooting or electronics in general Basics is basics, audio, lighting production equipment. Stick to it, and ya get teh job done. And when ya buy tubes in bulk they are cheaper, so ya have em when ya need em. You don't keep spare headlmaps for your car either, you wait till they burn out in teh rain, at nite? Mainatianinace, after a few hundred hours on stanadrd lamsp you know they are gonna pop, expecially with DRL's. So do tubes, change em, it's not a service center issue, unless you like spending money on nutin'. Since you think swapping teh tubes is a waste, but going to a service center and paying their fee, to...change tubes! Illlogical. One develops logic after years of experience, in troubleshooting, it don't come from nonsense.

Re: Sad

dup, Stephen ended the original thread for good reason and moved responses to the dead zone for even more important reasons. I'm sorry I started this but I felt you at least owed apiccar a note of congratulations. You seem incapable of thinking of anyone but yourself. That's what's sad about this, dup. Being "agreeable" means not beating things to death when you've said what you have to say once. I didn't come here to be in competition with anyone. You're supposed to be an adult, dup, so just let this rest.

Re: Sad

When someone asks for advice with a problem the point for those who feel so inclined should be to freely offer suggestions.

This is not something unseen on audio hobby sites, such questions generate replies covering a variety of suggestions, troubleshooting approaches, etc.

Again the point is to offer suggestions in the hope that the net sum leads to happy outcome.

The point IS NOT to be correct, not to engage in some moronic competition, not to end with "I told you so!!!! Nah Nah Nah Nah.", or "AMEN....that's why I do what I do....logic and reality based stuff. AMEN to ME". Are these examples of the standard to which we will aim for our intercourse? I certainly hope not!

Amen, and now we lay me down to sleep. Praise the DUP. I graciously accept all your accolades and praises and offer any good advice I can. At the close of this sermon, on your way out, please don't forget the donation basket, as Father DUP needs a new RS6. Can I hear an AMEN. Can I hear a 12AU6, 6N1P, KT88.

This is where I dont follow your logic

No respecting engineer would simply swap out the tubes - you learn nothing that way - the whole point of the science is to find out what is wrong and why, are there any left over effects from something else that has aged in the system?

I never said that DC pumping was "HIS" problem - if you read my post properly it was a comment made from some of my experience with other amps. We engineers like to find out what is wrong and why before steaming in to a cure.

I'm happy that Apiccar got his sound back.

I'm not here to prove anyone right or wrong in any instance -- Your turning the thread into an "I can piss higher than you" contest is just childish....and I think we have found the forum troll.

Now where is my coffee

Jan,

I think you are at least as responsible as DUP for continuing this argument.
Surely you knew your call for the apology would set off a new round.

You seem to thrive on the conflict more than he.
In fact, one has to wonder if your post is a rather disengenous attempt at getting DUP banned again.

Erik had some great advice for you.

All the best,

I agree. For once I have to (sort of) takes DUP's side. I thought he was just trying to help in the simplest manner possible. It's what I'd have suggested as well, if I had posted. Start simple and cheap, if possible and move on from there. But this thread IS a bit sad, but more so in so in that it's obviously gunning for a fight. No need really, as I'm sure there will be plenty of DUPisms to argue about in the future, hahah. Seriously- why go looking for trouble?

Re: Sad

I'm not looking for anything and had hoped this would get sent to the Dead Zone long before now. We all know how threads that center around one person turn out on this forum. The argument over who fixed apiccar's amp was ended by Stephen and it was not my intent to restir that pot. We've all pissed in the stew one more time and this thread should end as it's obvious none of us have learned anything.

I do think the constant attempts to read my mind over the past few months have been and are absurd. I don't get dup banned and I can't ban dup. So, get over yourself on that count.

DUP: Who cares?

Jan: This thread should have never started. Please don't start threads that you anticipate being sent to the Dead Zone. Doing so makes about as much sense as DUP celebrating himself for "being right." I find that when actions or words make little sense, others tend to mind-read in an attempt to better understand. NO ONE BENEFITS.
