Not something I would do, but Roy still needs to be able to pay his mortgage. I wouldn't rush to judgment, as long as he wasn't on Nordost's payroll before he left HiFi+.

Unless it can be shown that RG benefitted financially with Nordost or had a quid pro quo deal when he was at HiFi+, I don't see any conflict with his career move. It's no secret he thought highly of Nordost products, but so do I.

IMO he was a significant asset to HiFi+ as their editor and spokesperson. I shall miss him.

Roy Gregory stood down from Hi-Fi Plus magazine at the beginning of the year and I took over. Because it is a bi-monthly magazine, my editorial announcing RG's change in circumstance is in my second issue as editor. Between the two issues (approximately a month ago), Roy announced that he was going to work for Nordost as VP of Marketing, effective immediately. This both did and did not come as a shock to me.

I have known of RG's enthusiasm toward Nordost products for some time and it was logical to assume that in standing down, he would be working for the company. However, when I quizzed him on this subject at the CES in Las Vegas in January (when I was offered the position of editor), he assiduously denied such a career move and suggested his future lay elsewhere in the audio business. He further intimated that this was 'something to do with shows', but would not be pressed on the matter.

My suspicion (and it is no more than idle speculation) is that his 'something to do with shows' was connected to the Rocky Mountain Audiofest, but sadly

Categorcial denial of an interest in a certain job, especially in sports, is the sine qua non of actually planning to do what you say you aren't.

Now, the question is how long this was planned.

JA, what about your dream of working as a NYC subway conductor?

I do not know the person or the magazine but would you prefer he went to work for a company that made a product he didn't really like? Are magazine writes or editors forever banned from working elsewhere in the audio industry?

Let me see if I understand...You REALLY do not like this fellow. What happened, did he pee on some favorite gear?

I get distressed with the magazines affectation that 4 digit audio gear is budget or affordable but I do not desire to unemploy anyone.

As we can see perception creates a situation that gives the man a negative connotation to overcome. So no, I don't by any means think that the job will be walk in the park. people have to perform on the job, and consistently at that. With no more leeway in that department than anyone else.

I'm surprised that no-one has brought up the name J-10.

There's a small, whimsical film by a master filmmaker Hou Hsiao Hsien called "Cafe Lumiere," in which one of the main characters has a curious and compulsive habit of recording the sounds of the Yamanote subway train line in Tokyo with his mike. Maybe you can replicate the feat in real life for the N/R or the 6, and even provide measurements!

Me too, but to my knowledge he never reviewed any Monster Cable for Stereophile.

I do miss his monthly column on tweaking. I'd like to see something like that again.
