I'll be there for sure, since I only live two blocks away from the site. I expect to be Guido Corona's guide (he's a blind, free lance audio reviewer), so if you see us introduce yourself.
If enough come maybe we can meet for coffee or beer.

Question
Is the RMAF very high brow ? how would someone who doesnt drink the cool aid get along ?
I wouldnt go there to be negative but also i wouldnt be comfortable if the party line has to be followed !!
Alan
It's a very relaxed atmosphere. Very friendly.
A mix of 'self starters', DIY, direct sales types, and the 'High End'.
They have a strict 'db' speed limit, as well.
It's about as high brow as Mardi Gras. Well, slightly higher - less boob flashing at Hi Fi shows, unless you count Stephen or Jonathan Halpern (but that's another story.)
It's nearly 100% about people trying to show their gear and make good tunes - in the atmosphere of making people, even chicks, have a chance to enjoy playing music, on the Hi Fi.
The only vociferous disagreements or fights I've ever seen were between reviewer types. And those involved more Scotch than Kool Aid, if ya know what I mean.
Meeting the makers of this stuff gives terrific insight into how much love, attention, and personality gets tossed into these toys of ours - the place is full of passion and chit chat and good fellowship.
It's also a stone cold bargain - being able to listen to all that stuff in one place.
I honestly think attending these shows makes people 'better' audiophiles and is cost effective in the long run at aiding in identifying things/sounds/experiences you like the most. It's the perfect place to get a feel for just how much of a solid state/tube analog/digital planar/dynamic etc...kind of listener you are!
These things are shockingly fun.
It's a great, relaxed, fun show. I even saw wives there last year on Sunday. Friday and Saturday are mostly audio geeks and a few curious locals. A few of the retailers are snooty, but it's real easy to walk out and go to the next room.
The biggest problem is fatique, because there's so much to see and hear. You need to study the program and prioritize to assure that you see your favorites. Plan on a nap on Saturday.

Not for women who are demeaned by comments like this. Come on, Buddha. The show is being put on by a woman. Women are heads of some audio companies. It's time to get past this stuff, ditch the old boys' club, and join the 21st century.
I will be there, as correct and as enthusiastic as ever.
Today's my birthday. So please, rather than throw darts, light a candle.
jason
Happy Birthday, Jason!
I'd light the correct number of candles for you, but that would require going on to too high a number of boxes of candles. Plus, global warming and all.
I was purely fishing when I made the sexist comment.
I apologize to all of the female reader here! (sic)
So, out to dinner tonight? Home? Where will you be celebrating?
Thanks for apology, Buddha. And for the birthday greetings.
Tonight, dinner at Cha Cha Cha in the Haight with husband and two friends. We'll probably sing, "Will you still need me, will you still feed me" in Spanish instead of Happy Birthday. Now you know how old I am.
jason
All too true.
Also true. I wrote about my first experience at RMAF here.
Jason, this will be a significant birthday - Eight Squared!
Two to the sixth!
2X2X2X2X2X2!
A number that is the product of multpilying a prime number only by itself!
Two cubed, squared!
Four cubed!
64 is the sum of Euler's totient function for the first fourteen integers!
It is also a dodecagonal number and a centered triangular number.
Truly an auspicious number!
I'm just finishing Seven Squared, myself.
Cha Cha Cha! Time for Tapas! I'm jealous.
_____
In binary, you are 100000!
This is incredible, Buddha.
Internally, I feel 100000 http://forum.stereophile.com/forum/images/icons/confused.gif
Yeah, he should have a 'flipping the next bit' ceremony, I think.
I better bring you guys back down, then.
Hey Jason,
I missed the news!
Happy Birthday!!
I hope to run into you at the RMAF. I enjoy your Stereophile articles. Buddha & I will buy you and your husband (if he's traveling with you) a drink of your choice at the RMAF! We were both early members of the BAAS before the powers to be made us move from the City.
Mike
I'm not seeing the sexism in this post. Is it the term "chicks?" Is that a sexist word now? I didn't get the memo. If it's the "even chicks" phrase, then I'm still not seeing the sexism.
Just in case you haven't noticed, JVS, there are a whole lot more men interested in electronic gear than women and these shows are more about the gear than the music.
Climb down off your smug high-horse every now and then.
Ah yes. The alien blood spatter room.
You can smoke pot if you prefer. Just don't bring any brown acid, okay?
I don't care. You have to bring women in bikinis showing off the equipment. If not, than I'm going to the car show. One thing I can't stand is an audio show without chicks.
