The new Yamahas are suppose to have much improved sonics and have been receiving favorable reviews, from their $550/RX-V657 to their $1099/RX-V2500. Larger models are available as well, but all include Yamahas' improved YPAO automated room calibration and room equalization which is claimed to really work. Have a listen if you can. Pretty nice bang for the buck lineup.
