Yeah, when you buy vinyl, the only thing you are sure to get is larger cover art! I got the nice Mothership vinyl box. Most of it sounds great! I was so eager to hear what Immingrant Song sounded like, and it sounded exactly like the compressed version I have heard over the decodes from a 5 inch speaker in my car! Remastering and vinyl could not change the intense compression of the original, only remixing could do that.

Then there was the vinyl of U2's pop. It has NO treble! There are lots of reasons to get vinyl, but better sound is not always available because it takes a lot of care and intent to get better sound on the wax.

Is it really bad? Crap. I was hoping for improvement.

The reissues of "3 Imaginary Boys" and "17 seconds" were wonderful on CD - or at least improvements to the original CD versions. The "Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me" reissue didn't sound that great, but I'm guessing it has alot to do with the original recordings, let alone how they remastered it.

Its too bad the Disintegration reissue doesn't sound that good. I'll probably buy it anyway since my old copy got stolen by some exgirlfriend.

The Cure have just released a remastered version of their seminal album Disintegration.

Along with the CD, they have also offered a Vinyl version.

My question is, would the vinyl release use the same remastered source as the CD? Is a concurrent Vinyl reissue of a remastered release normally handled / processed differently?

(i'm waiting for the record to compare to the CD myself) : )

I don't know about this release specifically, but vinyl re-issues are sometimes pressed from a master specifically for vinyl. Usually not though. Crawl, are you speaking from experience with this remaster?

They are the same source (no idea if the original master tapes were used or not) but my understanding is that the vinyl version was specifically remastered for the format.
Basically your getting 3 tracks per side on the Disintegration double LP, for the reason to enhance the sound quality (which is subjective especially when comparing to original releases that had less of the loudness war trend).
Did they just release the double vinyl or also single for the remaster 2010 release?
Edit:
If I remember the original was a single vinyl release.

Cheers

I agree 100%
