And welcome! You will be looking for bargains or very entry level gear at that price point, but I bet you can set up a very nice sounding system. I would look at the NAD integrateds for your amplifier. Their entry level integrated will work just great and I think it is around $350. Then you can go for the Wharfdale 10.1 speakers at $350. They will sound better with stands, so add around $100 for stands. I have a Bellari VP130 tube phono preamplifier that I really enjoy and can recommend for $250. That leaves you $50 for cables.

Now please do not go and get all those components sound unheard! Find places to listen to them if you can, maybe even make a weekend trip to a dealer in a nearby city to hear what they have. There are LOTS of option at this price range, and many roads to Mecca. But it can be done, and you will be loving tunes from your turntable soon.

Drop back in to let us know what you decided and how it sounds!

Thanks Drtrey3!

I was looking at the entry level NAD, and will definitely try to find the phono preamp to listen to.  Any thoughts on integrateds with phono built in at this price point?  ie the musichall 15.2 or marantz pm5004? I'd love to spend more, but i suppose all in good time...

I'll definitely circle back when I get it all together.

Thanks again!

the Music Hall gear, but people who have like them. Marantz stuff is great, I have heard that! You can always use an integrated phono preamp from the integrated amplifier at first and upgrade to a standalone unit as your funds recover. Let us know how it works out.

is a great amp with a built-in phono stage. And since Rega just came out with a new remote-control version of that amp (Brio-R) you might be able to find the Brio 3 on closeout for a price that will be close to the entry level Marantz and NAD gear.
