Well, what kind of college faculty member would automatically rule out panel speakers?

I'll try to be bigger than that and add to the list...

Avantgarde Trio or Trio Classico speakers. They are an easy load to drive and can fill space very well.

Instead of the Duntech, some refurbished AR 9 or AR 90's - two pair, with one speaker in each pair inverted on top of the other speaker.

Mackie HR824Mk2's with HRS120 subwoofers. Drivers mated to integrated electronics would save funds, and the speakers are pretty bullet proof.

PBN Montana

Thiel CS3.7

Heck, a pair of the new LaScala speakers may do well, too!

While a bit off topic, I would be interested if LP playback will be the only source and if so how much student interest there would be. If there is other sources used, how much student interest would there be if there was no MP3 interface? Of course being a liberal college all sources must be accomidated in the interest of fairness. Laser disks, SQ4 albums, CD4 albums, Victrolas, cassette, 8 track, open reel (all different track variations and widths).

Hopefully I'm wrong but from what I hear youth today listening to you will just need a bunch of sub-woofers for speakers.

Hi John,

Just a thought and I have no connection with SP Technologies, other than I have heard the Continiums near his factory, at a fellow audiophile's small 'auditorium'. They cost 7 grand or so total, if I remember correctly.

Require some power, but not alot for the volume you will be creating. Basically Bullet proof drivers. Great bass, I believe down to 16hz, and also superior mids and treble.

If interested, search for SP technologies, or go to www.Audiocircle.com and scroll down to through the manufacturer's forum.

Take care and hope this helps. Also good luck in your endeavors.
Steve
