It appears to me that all you need is a preamp that has a tape out in addition to the always present preamp out. Yes?

Elk - Thank you for your reply. I looked at my literature for the PreAmp I am using and could find nothing indicating the output voltage for tape out. Is the output level the same as a fixed out direct form the PreAmp usually? Also, is that "tap" always on or is it switchable? Lastly is it volume dependant? Could find nothing in my manual and do not know for PreAmps generally. I need a fixed level out to drive the whole house amp as there are separate vol pots for each room/zone. Thank you in advance for your thoughts.

The tape out level is the same as a preamp fixed out. In fact, this is precisely what it is. The level cannot be changed and is not dependent on the position of the volume knob.

Most tape outs are always on. Sometimes they are switchable, but this is easy to discern from the preamp's controls.

The tape out should do the job for you just fine.

There are lots! Perhaps start with Stereophile's recommended components list.
