You should check out SVS subs. The SB-1000 is sealed and will deliver more refined sound, has speaker level inputs so it will be easy to connect to your Rogue and is available for $499 direct. There are better subs out there but for the money you can't beat it and will work with your future speakers as well.

It is definitely not for home theater but that doesn't sound like a concern.

If this is above budget, I would look at a Polk and check ratings on Crutchfield to see which is the best within your price range and again, make sure it has speaker level inputs. Any ported sub is going to sound muddy with music so look for reliability rather than musicality.

make sure it's a sealed sub. I bought a B&W powered sub for 500.00 at best buy. It sounds pretty good. Previously I made the mistake of buying a ported sub (yamaha) which sounded horrible. All it did was rumble. No definition at all. Good for explosions in movies, but who the hell cares about that? For music it was shit. The sealed sub I now have at least makes discernable which musical instrument you're hearing.

with a Sphinx, connecting them by the variable level preamp outs.
